The Annapurna region lies towards the north of Central Nepal. This area is the most popular and major trekking destination in Nepal. According to a recent survey by Modern Maturity (USA) Annapurna region has been recognized as one of the world’s best trekking trails. The Annapurna trekking region consists of peaks Annapurna I, II, III, IV, those of Annapurna South peaks, Mt. Dhaulagiri and several

other peaks. The trek’s major highlights are the ancient mid-western salt route settlement of Manang, Thorong –La pass between Nepal and Tibet, Muktinath Temple and the deepest gorge of world Kali Gandaki. Gateway to Annapurna trekking region is the famous city of Pokhara. Mustang, or Lo Manthang, the desert plateau located in the upper valley of the River Kali Gandaki, and to the north of the main Himalayan range also falls in this region. Tourist access to Mustang is controlled to help retain its exclusiveness. The highlight of the trek includes the visit to the Mustang Palace, the visit to Lo Manthang and pony rides to the Nepal-Tibet border. There are seven ethnic groups living and working in this region, from Hindu farmers to Tibetan Lamas. The most prominent ethnic groups of Annapurna region are Gurung, Thakali and Manangba. Due to the extremes of elevation the region contains a remarkable diversity of flora; from sub-tropical lowland forests of oak, bamboo and rhododendron in the south to the high alpine meadows and windswept desert plateaus in the north, bordering Tibet. Animals found here are pika, blue sheep and Himalayan Tahr. The popular trekking routes of this region are Jomsom, Annapurna Circuit and Annapurna Base Camp, Sikles, Lamjung, Dhaulagiri, Upper Mustang and around Pokhara. The best time to visit is during spring and autumn. Unlike other parts of Nepal, even the monsoon months are ideal to visit to Upper Mustang that falls in the rain shadow area. The Manaslu circuit trek is one of the best treks in Nepal. It takes you around the Manaslu Conservation Area and leads to a breathtaking view of the eighth-highest mountain in the world.

This trek can be a great alternative if you’ve already been to the Annapurna Circuit. Manaslu Circuit Trek is a 14-day trek that starts at Soti Khola, ends at Beshi Sahar, and can be extended to 22 days with an additional side trek to the Tsum valley.

Flanked by the Annapurna’s to the West and Ganesh Himal to the East, it is one of the most graceful of the 8000-meter giants.

Unlike the Everest Base Camp Trek, which is flooded with trekkers from around the world, the Manaslu circuit trek usually sees fewer people along its route. It is remote and physically demanding yet culturally enriching and scenically uplifting.

The circuit takes you from the steamy lowlands with their rice and millet terraces through the mighty gorges of the Budi Gandaki, with their turquoise waters and amazing waterfalls. The suspension bridges in the Manaslu trek are in a league of their own for both length and height, and the yearly monsoon often washes minor bridges away, leaving trekkers to use semi-submerged rocks.

Trekking & hiking in Nepal is not only for seeing the mountains, On the way you have to pass the villages of people of different ethnic groups. And you can get a distinct experience of them own customs, culture, and their unique language.

Lying north of the Kathmandu Valley, the Tamang Heritage Trail is perhaps the most accessible trekking region in Nepal. Here, you can experience some of the most beautiful scenery in the country—terraced green farmland, thick forests, and the peaks of the Langtang Himalayas, close to the Tibetan border. An added bonus to the natural features is the chance to trek through Tamang villages.

The Tamang people originally came from Tibet as horse traders and settled in hilly parts of Nepal (usually within close proximity of the Kathmandu Valley) several hundred years ago. They have retained a distinct identity with Tibetan roots, as well as their own language. They have historically been one of the most marginalized ethnic groups in Nepal. Sadly, they were among the worst-affected groups during the 2015 earthquake, as their homes tended to be in vulnerable areas cut off from help. Trekking the Tamang Heritage Trail helps bring a source of income to the Tamang people in this area.

Langtang Valley Trekking is a trek suitable for people of all age groups. Different types of flora and fauna can be observed in this area. The trek passes through the Langtang valley, at the base of the prominent Langtang mountain range. Langtang region is especially inhabited by the Tamang people. The culture and dress of the Tamangs living in this area is similar to that of the Tibetans, as the Tamangs live close to the Tibetan border.
