NAGARKOT
It is a popular tourist resort of Nepal. It is situated 32km east of Kathmandu at an altitude of 2,175m.The panorama of the major peaks of the eastern Nepal Himalaya, including Mt. Everest, can be seen from here. Sunrises and sunsets from here are spectacular.
POKHARA VALLEY
Pokhara is one of the most picturesque spots of Nepal. Three lakes named Phewa, Begnas and Rupa enhance the beauty. Pokhara is situated 200km west of Kathmandu and is linked with a highway and by air. This highway passes along a highly picturesque region between the midland valley and the terai belt of the kingdom. One can have a beautiful view of Dhaulagiri, Himalchuli Machhapuchhre, five peaks of Annapurna and others in the beautiful range of the Himalaya. Pokhara is the beginning point for trekkers starting theirs treks in the Annapurna region and is a great place to relax after trek.
CHITWAN NATIONAL PARK
From Kathmandu it takes 6hrs to reach Chitwan district. Situated 120km southwest of Kathmandu, the main attraction of Chitwan is Chitwan National Park. This one of the Nepal's largest forest regions with a wide range of wildlife - the rare great one-horned rhinoceros, several species of deer, sloth bear, leopard, wild boar, fresh water dolphin, crocodile, more than 350 species of birds and exclusive Royal Bengal tiger. Visitors to Chitwan will enjoy elephant back excursions nature walks in the jungle and canoe trips.
LUMBINI:-
It is situated at 232km to the southwest of Kathmandu. Lumbini is the symbol of peace for all humanities and the most scared place for Buddhists and Hindus because Queen Maya Devi gave birth to a child in this area. Later, the child became Sakyamuni God named as Buddha. In 249 B.C. Emperor Ashok erected a pillar, to commemorate his visit to this holy place. Now it stands proudly right in front of the Maya Devi temple as historical monument. Near to the Mayadevi temple, a scared pond called "Puskarni" where Prince Siddhartha(Buddha) got a first bathe after the birth. We can go to Lumbini both by road via Pokhara or Chitwan or directly by air from Kathmandu.
JOMSOM
Jomsom at an altitude of 2800 meter is more correctly known as Dzongsam or New Fort. It spreads over both the banks of the Kali Gandaki. The towering peaks of Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri form an attractive backdrop. Being the district headquarters, it is primarily an administrative and commercial center with government officials and merchants rubbing shoulders with the local inhabitants of the region, known as the Thakalis. It has a wireless station, a police station, a bank, a hospital and a veterinary hospital. A company of the Nepalese Army is stationed here. Nearby is an airfield, from where flights operate regularly. However, due to the strong winds that buffet the area in the afternoons, the airfield is functional only in the forenoon.
The views from Jomsom are enchanting as the Nilgiri (7,061 m) and Dhaulagiri (8,167 m) ranges reflect the golden rays of the rising and setting sun. The entire panorama is filled with a golden, glittering light which forms a dramatic contract Life here is a balance of hard work, and ancient culture. Many visitors find their most lasting impression of Nepal comes not from the urban valleys but from visits to places like Jomsom and its exhilarating spiritual environment. Jomsom area is not only the most popular trekking destination in Nepal but also the gateway to Upper Mustang β βKingdomβ within the Hindu Kingdom of Nepal. Jomsom is also the gateway to The Muktinath shrine that holds great religious significance to both Buddhists and Hindus.
The altitude in this area varies from 2012 m. near Ghasa to 8091 m (Mt. Annapurna) β vertical height difference of 6079 m. over a distance of only 14 Km. The towering Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Ranges, the Pre-Himalayan Gandaki river systems, old cave dwellings, lush green fruit orchards, ancient religious temples and monasteries, primitive villages, high mountain lakes, caravans still operating along ancient salt routes β all these make this area one of the most diverse, stark and primitive areas in Nepal. Explore diverse villages like Marpha, Thini, Syang, Tukuche, Kgbeni etc. Dhumba and Tilicho lakes. Nature and Man reside in complex harmony!
Jomsom is served by 8-15 flights a day. Regular visitors know that the flights are dependent on weather conditions. Though this is a remote area, private initiatives in the form of many domestic airlines operate frequent flights to the area. Flight reliability and frequency are generally higher to jomsom than to any other remoter area in Nepal. This is not a run-of-the-mill destination.
