Cholatse 6440m Expedition 2023 autumn
Cholatse expedition is considered the next stage of climbing a technical peak in the Himalayas. This expedition is for climbers who are planning a technical climbing challenge at 6000M - 64000M altitude. Grade route WI2+ M3-4 A1-2. If you have climbed Ama Dablam or other technical peaks around the world at D+/-, 5.9/5.10 grade levels, then you can consider yourself qualified for the Cholatse expedition. This expedition is not for any beginner but rather for Intermediate+ / advanced-level climbers.
Pre-requisite experiences (2 or more 6000M + multi-pitch climbing skills & ice climbing): Lobuche East & Island Peak, Chulu West, Khumbu 3 Peak expeditions, Baruntse, Ama Dablam, multi-pitch climb (rock or ice), rock climbing grade up to 5-9+/- to 5.10 a,b,c (Similar 4000M - 6000M peaks or higher) and Ice climbing WI-2 to WI-4.
This expedition starts on the same routes as the Everest base camp trek and other famous expeditions in Khumbu. Our team flies to Lukla then hikes towards Namche Bazzar, then diverges into Phortse village into the emerald beauty of Gokyo lake. After acclimatizing and trekking in the high altitude properly, we arrive at the base camp of Cholatse at 5000M. This base camp is also used for the Taboche peak expedition which can be added as an Cholatse 6440m Expedition 2023 autumn
extension trip. This expedition is a highly technical climb with lots of technical mixed sections, an exposed knife-edge ridge route, and stunning panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu from the summit. We will climb via the South West ridge route, setting up camp 1 and camp 2. Get ready to climb on some outrageously steep and exposed climbing expedition.
In total, we will have 12 climbing days which allows our team ample time to fix the safety ropes, set up camps, rotations up to camp 1, and have contingency days to take on this expedition. The route will see us navigate a small icefall that leads us to an ice/snow headwall of about 45-50 degrees steep wall, where our team will have fixed a rope for safety. This will then lead us up the Southwest Ridge in its entire length to the summit. We will utilize two camps strategically before making the summit bid.
History: First ascent made by a French team (Boris Badaroux, Philippe Batoux, Marc Challamel, Christophe Mora, Paul Robach (leader) via North Face in 1996.
Expedition Highlights
• Cholatse 6440M summit
• South-west ridge route, Camp 1 - 2 Strategy
• Return hike down the Khumbu valley or Via 🚁 from BC to Lukla
• 10-12 Days of climbing period
• 1:1 Guide/Client ratio throughout the expedition
• Namche Bazaar, Gokyo, Tengboche (highlights on the route)
