Mustang is a remote Himalayan Principality on the border of Nepal and Tibet. It has long been considered ‘Lost and Forbidden’ Kingdom. It borders with Tibet at the far northern end of Kali Gandaki, the deepest gorge in the world. Lying behind Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massif, it is barren and dry region, a miniature Tibet. It was once the important trade route to Tibet and India and the passage to Mt. Kailash. Traders and fugitive Sadhus have travelled these areas since centuries.

A little girl in the village of Samdzong, Upper Mustang. She is holding a little stuffed penguin that she did not let go for a week that was bought by the legendary climber and his wife for the kids during our scientific research expedition into the sky caves of Mustang. It is sad that in 2016 this beautiful village of about 18 houses had to be relocated due to drought. Sometimes I wonder what these kids have grown up to be like…

This is probably the second descent of the Upper Kali Gandaki in Upper Mustang. The Grand Canyon of Nepal I would call it. As in the summer the melt is high above in the mountains and the water pretty fast below. The washouts above makes the color of the water black (Kali). After very eventful expedition with my buddy @heimirhallgrimsson and @angshimalayanadventures we found our self on the highest summit of earth. I had always imagined the celebration at top, succeeding a long term goal, conquering the mountain. The reality was very different… being very aware that we were experiencing having the summit climb on Everest to our self, almost none else on the mountain was extremely rare and rewarding. However sensing the thin line of life and death, crossing resting bodies of fellow climbers and looking in the eyes of the extremes I found my self really focused, in peace and very emotionless. It was very clear that this was just a halfway point and all of our focus was needed to get down with the winds raising. It took me months to reflect on the expedition and realise the true values. Leaving the ego behind, pure humbleness, love for the nature and sharing the journey with my team and the Sherpa community was a highlight. @mingma.lama.547 @lakpasherpa1342
