With extensive experience as our invaluable asset, we have learned to adapt to changing times and circumstances. Founded in 1968, we were the nation’s first travel agency. Exodus Trekking was founded by Michael John Cheney and Purna Lama. Michael started his career as a British army officer but his later years were destined to be spent among the Himalayas. Along with Colonel Jimmy Roberts, he esta
blished the first trekking company in Nepal. Purna Lama, a lifelong friend of Michael, started out as a cook and chief guide training under Michael for 30 years. Purna Lama’s contributions in his early climbing expeditions are well known, especially his role as a cook on Sir Chris Bloomington’s 1975 Everest Expedition and a cook for Prince Charles during his trekking in Nepal. Our office proudly displays the numerous memorabilia and photographs that exhibit our illustrious past. Although Michael and Purna are no longer with us, their careful organization and ethical client-centered philosophy have been passed down to Karma Lama, Purna's son, and his brother-in-law Pasang Bambo, who manage the company today. They are dedicated to promoting the vision that had inspired the founders.
