Lakhey (Demon who became protector of children and got a place with Deities)
Lakhey Dance is celebrated by Newar People in Kathmandu Valley and other Newar settlements. According to Newar Folklore, Lakhey is a Demon who used to live in the forest and hunt people. Later, he falls in love with a girl and wants to get married. People get against it because he is a demon who hunts people. After seeing his love for the girl, people agree to let them marry, but in return, people ask for his protection from other Demons.
People still get scared of Lakhey because he is a Demon. To test him, people go near and tease him to make him angry, but in return, Lakhey dances and teases them back. After that, people believe Lakhey will protect them and start to worship him. Every year in September, during G*i Jatra Newar, people perform the Lakhey Dance.
