I’m excited to share about an incredible non-profit organization that’s making a real difference in our community: Compass Rose International. Their dedication to uplift young women vulnerable to child trafficking and mental health challenges, and providing tools for resilience, confidence, safety, and independence is truly inspiring.

Recently, I had the privilege of speaking with Katie Hilborn with Compass Rose International, and I was moved by the passion and commitment of everyone involved. The stories of resilience and success I witnessed were a testament to the power of community and compassion.

🌾 Tsampa is a Tibetan flour made from roasted barley, and is a staple food in Tibet, Mongolia, and the Himalayan region. It's also known as zamba in Turkestan and Mongolia. 🌍

🍚 Tsampa is glutinous and can be made from barley, wheat, or tree peony seeds. It's lower in fat and calories, and higher in fiber than ancient whole grains. 🌾🌿

🥣 Tsampa can be eaten solid, like dough called Pak, or thinned out to porridge-like consistency called Tsamdur. It has a nutty flavor and is nutritious and filling. 🌰💪

The trek to Gokyo passes along a less travelled and tranquil route, over the 17,000' Renjo La Pass, with stunning views of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Cho Oyu. In a region steeped in mountain history and culture, trekkers have the opportunity to explore the rugged landscape of one of the most storied and highest mountain ranges in the world. Our trekkers just finished the trek and are ready for Kathmandu bound.

Gyalpo Losar, also known as Tibetan New Year, is a festival celebrated in Tibetan culture to mark the beginning of the Tibetan lunar calendar year. "Gyalpo" means king or royal, and "Losar" means New Year. The date of Gyalpo Losar varies each year as it is determined by the lunar calendar.

During Gyalpo Losar, people engage in various traditional rituals, ceremonies, and festivities. These may include cleaning and decorating homes, offering prayers and rituals at monasteries, wearing traditional clothing, and participating in social gatherings with family and friends. Additionally, there are specific foods and dishes associated with the celebration.

It's worth noting that Losar is not only celebrated in Tibet but also by Tibetan communities in other regions, including Bhutan, parts of India, Nepal, and among Tibetan diaspora communities around the world. The festival holds cultural and religious significance, and it is a time for reflection, renewal, and the coming together of communities.
