How to Trek in High Himalayas after COVID 19
The COVID-19 pandemic has had far-reaching consequences beyond the spread of the disease itself and efforts to quarantine. The virus has spread almost all over the country. The outbreak of coronavirus was from China, Wuhan. Due to this virus, many people had to suffer from many problems. The first case in Nepal was confirmed on 23 January 2020 when a
31-year-old student, who had returned to Kathmandu from Wuhan on 9 January, tested positive for the disease. The coronavirus pandemic has affected everything in marketing source, economic status, tourism status, and education. Nepal took steps to prevent a widespread outbreak of the disease. As we know, Visit Nepal 2020 is the tourism year campaign initiated by the Government of Nepal to advertise the image of Nepal as a primary tourist destination, due to the pandemic of coronavirus, nothing seemed to be going as per the plan. Since it has already been several months after the lockdown soon the hotels, transportation, offices, agencies, international and domestic flights, and more are likely to be open. COVID-19 has come as a game-changer, making the health and safety of our people and clients. In short, destinations will now compete for the best health and safety protocols in place to build upon the confidence of travelers. Here are some of the safety measure to trek the Himalayas after the COVID-19:
SECTION-I
1. GUIDE & STAFF PROTOCOLS
Clients shall agree (in writing) that they might have to leave the trek if the guide deems this to be medically necessary, possibly with the consent of their travel medical insurance company Operational Guideline with Health Protocol for Tourism Sector. The guide shall advise clients to the only shop from a local shop where safety guidelines are being adhered to. The guide should brief about all the safety measures and the difficulties before and after the trek. The guide should keep on eye on every bit of the trekkers and make sure everybody follows the guidelines. Guides will carry appropriate satellite communications to report any emergency or evacuation of any sick or potentially infected clients. Guide and all staff should set a good example of adhering to the protocol for the clients to follow. The guide shall advise clients to strictly follow health protocols (wearing masks, not handing common condiment containers without clean hands, etc). Make sure the trekkers don't throw the trash wherever they want. Discuss respectfully keeping these mountain regions clean with villagers to maintain. And discuss appropriate clothing with trekkers, again encouraging them to respect these remote regions. TREK & CAMP PROTOCOLS
Physical touches like handshake and hugs are not allowed so it is more suitable to greet by saying NAMASTE. Health check-ups should be mandatory to all the trekkers on the trekking routes. The proper number of group sizes should be notified for safety. Groups should maintain the distance from other trekkers and villagers. All the check-up of before and after records should be there to examine the health condition. Plenty of sanitizers should be provided and should carry them individually. Avoid using the same mask and clothes. Do not share the same snack eaten by you or better share without eating at first. Trekkers are not permitted to enter the villager's house. Trekkers should be alert every time while trekking. Trekking Is My Therapy
