Happy Dashain 2023!

Dashain is one of the most significant and joyous festivals celebrated in Nepal. It is a time of family reunions, cultural festivities, and spiritual reflection. This festival, which lasts for 15 days, marks the victory of the goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura and the triumph of good over evil.

During Dashain, families come together to perform various rituals and celebrate their bonds of love and togetherness. The festival begins with Ghatasthapana, where a sacred vessel filled with holy water is established in homes and temples. This vessel symbolizes the presence of the goddess Durga.

The most famous tradition of Dashain is the Tika and Jamara ceremony, where elders give their blessings to the younger members of the family. Elders place Tika (a mixture of yogurt, rice, and vermillion) and Jamara (barley grass) on the foreheads of the younger ones. This symbolizes love, protection, and good fortune.

Homes are cleaned and decorated, and people dress in their finest attire during Dashain. Delicious feasts are prepared, featuring a variety of traditional Nepali dishes. Kite flying is also a popular pastime during this festive season.

Beyond the family celebrations, Dashain is a time for people to visit temples, especially the goddess Durga's shrines, and seek her blessings for good health, prosperity, and happiness. It's a time of reflection, forgiveness, and renewing bonds with loved ones.

Dashain is not just a religious festival; it is a cultural celebration that brings the entire nation together in a spirit of unity and joy. It's a time to be grateful for the blessings of life and to look forward to a brighter, more prosperous future.

So, on this special occasion, I wish you and your family a Happy Dashain filled with love, harmony, and the fulfillment of all your dreams and aspirations.
