The infamous ice glacier, the Khumbu Icefall the frozen trail towards Everest. Mountaineers attempt this at the most frozen time of the day so the ice doesn't crack or move. Carrying gear, crossing shaky ladders on crevasses, and all the energy, focus and determination is needed.

Mustang is one of the least populated district in Nepal which lies in far Southern fringes of Tibetan plateau. It used to be a semi independent kingdom until the abolishment of Monarchy in Nepal. Also known as the last forbidden kingdom as Lohmanthang the walled city lies in this district. A title of Beyond the wall can be given to this area as normally while trekking in Nepal you chase the mountains in the North but you cross the Himalayas and walk upwards tibetan plateau in Mustang. It is a rugged Surreal terrain with unique culture and landscape. It is divided into two parts Upper and Lower Mustang. Foreigners need to apply for special trekking permit to venture into Upper Mustang. The main highlights are the picturesque views of the himalayas, ecological diversity, exploring primitive villages, caves and monasteries. It is kind of arid desert like Savannah. People are friendly and welcoming.

Not very far from the city of Kathmandu.
πŸ‡³πŸ‡΅Hiking in Nagarkot πŸ₯Ύ

Did you know that Nepal is home to 125 distinct ethnic groups, speaking 123 different languages? They follow a range of indigenous and folk religions in addition to Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam and Christianity.

Nepal is also one of the ten least urbanised countries in the world, only an estimated 20% of the population live in urban areas, so exploring rural villages is one of the joys of visiting.

Perhaps the best place for hiking is the Nagarkot Panoramic Hiking Trail, a 12 km hike near the community of Nagarkot, just 20 miles (32km) from Kathmandu.

It’s about a 3 to 3.5 hour walk, with views of the Himalayas including eight ranges (Annapurna, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Langtang, Jugal, Rolwaling, Everest and Numbur).

However, timing is everything, as the mountains are notorious for disappearing behind cloudy skies. The best viewing seasons are October to December and March to April, when clear skies are likely.

Himalaya Journey is a joint foreign-Tibetan-Nepali company that uses only local guides, drivers and support staff. We have offices in the US, Kathmandu, Thimphu and Lhasa. All of our guides and drivers are local Himalayan people who have been working in tourism for many years. It is a top priority for us to support as many locally-owned businesses as possible. The preservation of the culture of the Himalayas, as well as the protection of the environment of Himalayas, are extremely important to us.
