The region that hosts the highest peak in the world, Mount Everest (8848 meters), is undoubtedly the most popular trekking destination for trekkers. This national park, named after Sagarmatha – the Nepali name for Mount Everest spans over an area of 1148 square kilometers and ranges from 2845 meters all the way up to 8848 meters above sea level. Established in 1976, this protected area houses more

than 118 species of birds and a number of rare animal species such as snow leopard, Himalayan black bear, musk deer and red panda. Common vegetations found here include blue pines, firs, rhododendron, birch and junipers. Above 5750 meters, there is no vegetation seen because the land remains under snow during the whole year.In this region, there are several other mountains like Mt. Nuptse (7861m), Mt. Pumori (7161m), Mt. Ama Dablam (6812m), Mt.Kantega (6779m), Mt. Thamserku (6623) and Kwangde peak (6187m). There are numerous high passes, rivers and glaciers and glacier lakes. The region is primarily inhabited by Sherpas, Magars and other ethnic groups of Tibetan origin.
