Don’t you just love feedback?

Although our passion for the night sky/knowledge has been around for quite some time, we are a new business and the only stargazing operator in Akaroa. So, we do value receiving feedback more than ever!

Thanks, Daja for this fantastic review and we’re super pleased you enjoyed your experience with us.

Is your countdown on for the Orionids Meteor Shower? we're buzzed and praying the weather continues to stay clear for some epic viewing tonight.

First tour begins at 21:00pm - book via our website https://www.akaroastargazing.com

October is an active month for Orionids Meteor Showers. We're blessed to receive two meteor shower in the one month - peak dates are usually 20th & 21st October.

Below are 4 simple tips to ensure you get the best viewing 👇

-Join us on one of our stargazing tours and receive mindblowing scientific knowledge/Planet & Constellation viewings and much more! (Weather permitting 😉)

-Find a secluded viewing spot, away from the city lights. Once at the location, your eyes may take 15 to 20 minutes to get used to the dark.

-Dress for the weather, and make sure you are comfortable, especially if you plan to stay out long. Bring a blanket or a comfortable chair with you

-Meteor watching can be a waiting game. Once you have found your viewing spot, lie down on the ground and look at the sky. You can use an Interactive Meteor Shower Sky Map to find the direction of the radiant; the higher the radiant is above the horizon, the more meteors you are likely to see.

Happy viewing 🙏 💫

Here’s a fun fact for today as we head out to set up for the first tour of the evening 💥

Did you know particles in the Sun’s upper atmosphere are so hot and energetic that they speed out into space as part of the solar wind?

Our star (yeah that's right, the sun is a star!) sheds around 1.3 trillion trillion trillion particles every second. This equates to roughly one billion kilograms of matter per second, or one Earth every 185 million years. Pretty interesting right!

Margherita Hack, “The Lady of the Stars” has been a source of inspiration for many people, including myself.
Born in Florence, other than being an internationally renowned astrophysicist, "The Lady of the Stars", was an outspoken advocate for progressive causes, animal protection and equality for all.

'All of us have a common origin, we are all children of the evolution of the universe, of the evolution of the stars, and therefore we are really all brothers.' - Margherita Hack
