BexCakes founder Rebecca Pendle, grew up in Blenheim, a small vineyard town of Marlborough, South Island New Zealand, where she was known as ‘Bex’ by her friends and family and her beloved grandmother, Judith. From a very young age Bex enjoyed baking at preschool and at home in the farm kitchen with her mother Janice and grandmother Judith. They enjoyed a daily baking ritual and special time together in their homestead kitchen. When Bex grew up to become Rebecca and moved to Akaroa as a newly wed with her husband Stephen, she took with her, great grandma - Mama’s carefully recorded recipes in an old handwritten linen inventory book. The pure and simple connection those recipes fostered helped Rebecca form BexCakes’ from her café kitchen Nikau, situated on La Ruevaud, Akaroa, to share her experience with others. Through BexCakes’, Rebecca honours her mother Janice, her grandmother Judith and great grandmother Mama: in her dedication to their baking traditions, and her commitment to providing women with progressive careers in the food & hospitality industry.
