Day 3 of our Post Christmas Getaway! We have been reminded of just how beautiful our wee country is!
We left the sunny Haast, and headed to Thunder Creek Falls, a hidden wee gem along the highway! We stopped in Makarora for an amazing morning tea with the lovely team at the Makarora Country Cafe and Camp.
Driving around the edge of Lake Hawea was spectacular, stopping at the lookout to get those infamous lake shots. Our photos just don't do the breathtaking views justice!
After a relaxing lunch stop in Hawea we made our way through the Lindis Pass - so many lupins contrasting against the browness of the pass - stunning!
Once in Omarama we enjoyed a few hours of freetime. Some people enjoyed a wee siesta, while others enjoyed a walk or some shopping. It was a toasty 29 degrees which was a bit of a shock to our Ashburton systems, certainly not the weather we are used to at present 🥵
This gorgeous wee town was full of hustle bustle as it was their rodeo day, and the camp ground is full of holiday makers.
For the last night of our tour we were treated to an amazing buffet dinner at our accommodation, the Distinction Heritage Gateway Hotel. Such an awesome place to stay/eat, it's right up there in our list of favs!

Day 2 of our Post Christmas Getaway was a pretty special one! We spent some time at the Haast DOC Centre before morning tea in Haast. We then travelled out to Jacksons Bay. Wow. What a gem!
After an amazing seafood lunch at The Craypot, we popped back to Haast where we had 2 groups take a scenic flight. Some of the people had been in a Helicopter before, but not in this part of the country but for some others - it was their first time ever in a helicopter so this was very special.
They LOVED it, the pilot Nathan gave them an awesome experience and they didnt want to come back! Some even said they wanted to do it every day and perhaps had missed their calling as a pilot!
A great day - perfect weather, delicious food and fab company 🚌🥰😊

We had a lovely day yesterday taking a group to the Ohoka Farmers' Market, it was the first of their 2 Christmas Markets and wow they did not disappoint! So many stalls, lots of relaxed people and such a great atmosphere.
We even got a few gifts ticked off the "still to get" list.
We look forward to going next year too! Keep an eye on our newsletter and website for the date! 🚌🎄🥰
