It can definitely rain a lot in August in Auckland and moreso on the West Coast because generally that's where our weather comes from but when you get a sunny day and the air is crisp it can be so uplifting and invigorating.

Last one - superb 2015 Matakana Syrah from Matakana Estate - sold out at the winery but if you can find one, buy it! Vibrant ruby purple, Silky and refined with aromas of dark berries, cedar, vanilla and a very soft mouth feel. Flavours of blackberry, mocha and wild cherry with just a hint of fresh pepper. Superb 👍

The perfect Christmas Present for us was this NV Rose' Methode Tradionelle from - bursting with effervescence, a vibrant mousse and a continuous flowing bead.
Dry but slightly fruited with wild strawberry, dried cranberries and cherry flavors underpinned with complex brioche and toasty notes - Simply delicious and highly recommended - $45 only at the cellar door, but with just a few hundred bottles produced you'll need to be quick.

I proposed on new years eve midnight between 2019 & 2020 so I chose Kumeu River Estate 2020 Chardonnay for our wedding because this particular wine is one of my favourites. It captures the magnificent summer that year that was followed by tumultuous times and for many a complete metamorphosis caused by a global pandemic and very difficult times for the next 2 years and 6 months. This 6 litre Imperiale may be one of the biggest ones ever filled by Kumeu River Wines and is a selection of 6 different clones grown around Kumeu in West Auckland. It is barrel fermented using their own natural yeasts, and matured 11 months in a selection of one to five year Francois Freres French barriques before being blended into the final assemblage.
Chardonnay lovers enjoyed a glass or two of this excuisite, unique and never to be repeated 2020 vintage wine on this very special day.
