Further discussions with officials provide hope that there will be progress towards opening the border for travel between Australia and New Zealand in the near future:
"New Zealand, which has enjoyed similar success to Australia in containing the spread of COVID-19, was identified this week by Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison as the likely first overseas border to be reopened to Australian holidaymakers." - Anthony Dennis wrote in the The Sydney Morning Herald
Australian Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton said on Sunday that the government hoped to relax travel conditions between Australia and New Zealand in the "short to medium term".
"You could look at an arrangement with New Zealand given they're at a comparable stage as we are at fighting against this virus," Mr Dutton said on Sky News.
The government is exploring what technology and medical strategies could assist the resumption of Trans-Tasman travel, such as temperature tests and tracing apps.

What to do with two-thirds of the World's aircraft when they can't fly.
What do you do with Two-Thirds of the World’s aircraft when they can’t fly?
A recent Bloomberg article answers the question for us:
More than 16,000 passenger jets are grounded worldwide. Finding suitable storage space and keeping the planes airworthy has become the priorities for 2020.
While in storage the planes require maintenance of hydraulics, they need to avoid humid climates which can cause corrosion, they are often kept full of fuel so they remain stable in windy conditions.
“Parking space is a problem.” Says Anand Bhaskar, chief executive of New Delhi based Air Works, a plane repair and maintenance company. “These are logistics nightmares which we’re trying to work around.”
Airlines are hunting for space on the ground at airports or in longer-term storage facilities in arid places such as Australia’s outback and the Mojave Desert in America. KLM, for example, has 200 aircraft at gates and on one runway at Amsterdam airport.
“I’ve never seen anything like this before in my aviation career,” says head of technical operations for Etihad Airways, Gary Byrne. The aircraft “are very intricate, complex pieces of machinery – it’s not like parking a car.”
According to a recent Etihad twitter release: it’s engineers are working around the clock maintaining its grounded fleet. This process includes running engines and powering up aircraft, checking flight controls, and covering sensors and engines to protect inner workings from sand and dust.
Qantas says it had more than 200 aircraft parked at airports around Australia. Near Alice Springs, Asia Pacific Aircraft Storage company for the likes of Singapore Airlines and Fiji Airways, has capacity for 70 aircraft and looking to increase to 100. United Airlines expects to park 400 aircraft at Newark and Chicago.
The rapidly expanding airline business has come to a screeching halt including orders that were placed with Boeing and Airbus manufacturers.

The Ghan Expedition: "I was fascinated by the landscapes and insight into the Northern Territory, Red Centre and History of this region" says our owner Mary after her recent travels on The Ghan. "The service and crew on the train are attentive and very friendly. The all-inclusive food was delicious with a great selection of unlimited drinks. This is a must for those who enjoy rail travel, or river cruising (very similar style with all-inclusive tours and services on-board).
If you're looking for a new adventure, The Ghan is a must."
