Dear members,

Last year the Danish Society purchased two Automated External Defibrilators, one for Penrose and the other for Valhalla.
Now that we have these life saving devices at our premises is the time to get more confident in their use. St John have offered to provide training to anyone who would like to attend on Sunday 25th August at noon.
After the AED training you can have some fun playing Bingo.

Thanks

GUD BEVARE DANMARK
GUD BEVARE JER ALLESAMMEN”

🇬🇧 Her Majesty the Queen has announced the following in her New Year’s Address:

“I have decided that now is the right time. On 14th January, 2024 – 52 years after I succeeded my beloved father – I will step down as Queen of Denmark. I will hand over the throne to my son Crown Prince Frederik.

Tonight, I first and foremost would like to express my thanks. Thank you for the overwhelming warmth and support which I have received during all these years. Thank you to the changing governments with whom the collaboration always has been rewarding, and thank you to The Parliament, who have always vested their confidence in me.

Thank you to the many, many people who on special occasions and in everyday life have embraced me and my family with kind words and thoughts, turning the years into a string of pearls.

The support and assistance which I have received throughout the years, have been crucial to the success of my task. It is my hope that the new King and Queen will be met with the same trust and devotion which have fallen to my lot.

They deserve it! Denmark deserves it!

I will conclude my new year’s address in my usual manner:

GOD BLESS DENMARK
GOD BLESS YOU ALL”

The Danish Royal Court’s website (www.kongehuset.dk)will be updated regularly with information regarding the succession of the throne on January 14th, 2024.

In Copenhagen meeting with historian and linguist Jonathan Adams, author of the book Events in the Life of Phillip Tapsell (New Zealand Classics series, Oratia Books).

Phillip Tapsell, born Hans Falk in 1790, Copenhagen, took to the sea as a lad, changed his name, and after many adventures settled at Maketū in New Zealand’s Bay of Plenty. There he became the key trader for local iwi and married into the highest levels of Te Arawa, while helping other tribes to defend themselves against invasion from northern tribes.
Meticulously researched and edited by Dr Jonathan Adams, this book presents the original manuscript with close editing and annotation, and includes accounts of Tapsell’s life and how that has been interpreted in Denmark. Re posting as we have had very little helpers coming forward.

We need at least 30 people to make this event possible so please let me know if you can spare an hour or two to help on the day.

Please get in touch asap

Jacob

Scandinavian Christmas market is back on Sunday the 5th of November and we need YOU.
This is an event that creates a great income for our club and with the cost of everything going up it is crucial that we do well. As well as our hotdog stall, kitchen help (Hot Dogs) door takings we have this year decided on leasing a soft serve machine as our regular ice cream stall holder was unavailable. We will be running two machines, so if you have ever wanted to work in a ice cream shop, this is your time to shine.

As with previous years we need helpers throughout the day and ideally in 2-hour slots. So please if you can spare 2 hours do let us know. Please stipulate on your reply as to what task you would like to do, and I will do what I can to accommodate your request.

Helpers are needed from 9:30 am till 6pm.
Please contact me on [email protected] or 021848141
Many hands make light work so please please come along to lend a hand!
