Please, please tell any friends and family to only book with a real live NZ travel agent! The risks are just too high!

Day 3 flying on our Five Stars Air Safari saw us head east to the Maniototo and Lammermoor Station and distillery.

What an awesome day… the low cloud and drizzle cleared to allow us to land on their front paddock. A new experience for most. Great aviating Ants!

A lamb roast sammie and salad lunch and a few whisky and gin tastings and everyone was very happy!!

Our second day in the air on our Five Stars Air Safari was a bit of a mixed bag with four seasons in an one day at Stewart Island. But still an amazing experience and some stunning scenery in flight. We literally flew through a rainbow circle…special!!

We had a bluebird day. We were all blown away by this awesome place with its big skies and spectacular mountains. Fresh icebergs off Tasman Glacier were a bit of a bonus!

It’s a good day on tour when even your Plan B takes you to Paradise!

We’re down here on our inaugural Five Stars Air Safari but the weather in Milford Sound refused to play ball. Luckily on this side of The Southern Alps was perfect for a road trip.

Our friends at stepped up and we instead headed to the top of Lake Wakatipu to Glenorchy, One Lane Bridge and Paradise! Not bad for a Plan B at all!

Realising a dream!! I’ve long dreamt of operating a cruise to Great Barrier and Coromandel, and tonight’s the night. Me and 16 keen customers headed out of Auckland into a wobbly Hauraki Gulf. A stunning sunset and dessert at Tiritiri Matangi and now we’re heading to our anchorage at Kawau. More tomorrow …

Last weekend I was up in the Bay of Islands to meet one of our groups coming off a fabulous 7 day cruise exploring of the Hauraki Gulf, Great Barrier, Whangaroa and the Bay Of Islands.

Our mission was to explore the historic North including Hokianga Harbour. We had designed a unique three days with fabulous local guides, visiting Waitangi, Russell and the beautiful Historic Places Trust sites at Mangungu and Waimate Missions, where many more Maori signed the treaty in February 1840 than the initial signing at Waitangi.

Along the way we were warmly welcomed and had some unique experiences like seeing the locals under Haruru Falls in their waka training for Waitangi Day, a fresh smoked hapuka afternoon tea in Omapere and an emotional waiata at Tane Mahuta.

The team thoroughly enjoyed our brief exploration, what they said was a bonus after the great week they had already had coming North.

We were at AKL Airport yesterday to farewell my son as he headed back to London. It was a weird experience with only 4 flights for the rest of the day/night. To try and fill the departures board they had added this morning's flights as well!

On the departures floor including four of us there were 9 people in total. Not one retailer or food outlet is open, it was like something out of North Korea! Hopefully this all changes when the government open the borders with Thursday's announcement?

Happy New Year!

It’s always a good day when a new cruise ship comes into the Waitemata! The NZ ship Island Escape arrived this morning, non-stop from the Norwegian shipyard in Vietnam. Brand new, 32 passengers in luxury!

First cruise 12 January, Coastal North Island to Nelson. Then from February in Fiordland.

Once again the government have left travel agents out in the cold. With the border still closed small changes to the refund scheme would mean that travel agents could keep working on getting up to $500m worth of stranded international travel booking refunded.

But Labour said no!

OK, folks....you'll soon be free to roam! Well you are already free to roam, but is was a bit hard to get back!

Here's the timetable from what we already knew and the NZ Govt announcement today:

14 Jan - Kiwis* can return from Cook Islands, no quarantine!
17 Jan - Kiwis* can return from OZ - 7 days home isolation
14 Feb - Kiwis* can return from Anywhere - 7 days home isolation
30 Apr - Anyone from anywhere - 7 days self isolation

You will need:
++ a negative pre-departure test ++ proof of being fully vaccinated ++ a passenger declaration about travel history ++ a day 0/1 test on arrival ++ a requirement to self-isolate for seven days ++ a final negative test before entering the community

Fiji is announcing their plan to open to the world tomorrow. Sadly Kiwis won’t be going for some time. We need to get our vax rate up and work out a plan, any plan, detailing how people can travel home from overseas!

We still have several cabins available on our Marlborough Wine, Food & Sounds fly-cruise on 19th May. It's 10 nights starting with a luxury 2 night stay at d'Urville Hotel, a day wine touring with a wonderful wine matched chef's dinner.

The next day join our small ship the Heritage Explorer in Picton for 8 nights exploring Queen Charlotte and Pelorus Sounds, French Pass, Tasman Bay and Abel Tasman National Park. Plenty of historic sights, walks, zodiac trips and even a spot of fishing.
