Let’s talk about FOOD!

The more good food we eat, the more we’ll crave them.

It’s funny how we all go back to “our roots” as we get older. For me, although Middle Eastern food is comforting and “home” to me. I have a soft spot for Mediterranean food. My mother being half Greek has had a big influence on my choices in food. Growing up and especially in my teenage years, we used to go every summer to Athens and the Greek islands to visit family and friends. (It was only a 2 hour flight from Cairo!).

And my mum and I would literally get super excited just by the thought of a real Greek salad with grilled fish or meat with some freshly baked bread. Super simple yet absolutely delicious!

I know these elaborate dressings that we can blitz in a food processor to make a “fancy” meal are also delicious but there is something so yummy and simple about a good old fashioned dressing made out of extra virgin olive oil, vinegar or lemon and a bit of salt, pepper, oregano/mint…et voila! 😋

When we have so much choice, it can get overcomplicated for nothing.

And with these simple dressings/sauces - we can eliminate all the processed ingredients (and calories) and keep it clean and most of all actually quite easy to follow.

We will be talking more about small changes to include in our life that actually make a huge difference 🤩

LETS GET DOWN TO BASICS EVENT BY

JUNE 7th, 9:30-11:45am - St.Heliers Community Centre.

I’m thrilled to have .naturopath join us after our Friday class for an informative mini workshop.

Your morning will include:

- A signature Barre by class (sculpt and barre).

- Herbal teas and fresh & healthy snacks catered by the lovely .sustainability.enthusiast

- A chat with .naturopath - where she will be discussing the types of food and habits to help us thrive as we age. We will learn how to optimize our nutrition for our life stage and lay the foundation for healthy aging.

A few points that will be covered:
- weight gain and hormonal fluctuation
- types of food
- supplements and more…

I love chatting with my lovely community of ladies after class. It fills our cup and we all learn so much from each other.
Last week, we were sharing a few amazing hobbies the ladies have - now that the kids are a little older we have the time to think about what sparks joy in us.

And it’s not selfish to think about these things, in fact a necessity.

And they don’t have to be big things, just little things that we can include in our daily routine to make a change in our overall lifestyle.

Things like:
- Moving everyday, even if it’s only 10 min a day on those very busy days
- Spending more quality time with the kids, even if its a 5-10 min real quality time connection
- Spending more time with loved ones
- Listening to music more often
- Walking in nature
- Even spending some alone time!

Whatever it is for you, you deserve it! And of course taking a barre class together once or twice a week is also precious for you to take that moment for you - to look after yourself and feel good.

Here are some example of things I have been enjoying lately, inserting them here and there ❤️

Let’s get down to basics 😊

Many of us grew up thinking that the way to go when it came to exercising was super high impact, overloading and long cardio sessions.

Especially for women (as we age) - this can lead to us feeling depleted, burnt out and or even injured.
This kind of exercise can also mess with our hormones and general wellbeing.

For me personally, the shift came with the covid days - I was after a workout to improve myself - not break or deplete myself.

With Barre by Balancing Act, I focus on:
- low impact (we never jump!)
- feel good movement
- increasing strength (also super important as we age)
- increasing mobility
- increasing flexibility
- and most of all increasing that “feel good” vibe you get post workout ✨

And that is what I love sharing with you!

I will be sharing more tips here to inspire you on your own journey - including nutritional advice! Another extremely important factor to consider as we age!

It’s always been about community for me. Whether it was through my workshops and now through my classes.

I’ve always wanted to share my passion for health and movement. I also love connecting people together 💗 and my lovely clients love to do it too!
I get so excited and feel so grateful when a client brings a friend along or if someone comes through word of mouth.

I was just listening to my Spotify 2023 Wrapped and my barre/sculpt tunes have definitely been the highlight 🎶💃🏻

Reflecting on the year, I’m so grateful for pursuing my dream to share the transformative power of movement with you. And it’s that dynamic and fun blend of multiple disciplines - barre, Pilates, sculpt, and juicy stretches to end with that hit that sweet spot and allow us to get out of our heads and connect to our bodies.

I’m forever grateful to each of you who have taken a chance on me 🤍I’m so excited to share more and keep moving with you.

Our little Sophia and her love for dance and music has inspired and reminded me how much I love it too 😍

I'm excited to invite you to Barre by Balancing Act's Open Day on Friday 20th October.

It's the perfect opportunity to experience that distinct barre burn! Whether you're a familiar face or new to class, come and join a fun community morning.

Here's what you can look forward to:

A complimentary signature barre class - get ready to feel the mindful burn to a fun and upbeat playlist.

A complimentary post class coffee:
After your energising workout, treat yourself and get your coffee fix. We will have the amazing Santa Brew Coffee Truck come visit us after class. It will be a lovely way to recharge and relax as we mingle with fellow barre goers 🙂

Classes are at 9:30AM on Tuesdays and Fridays and 6:15AM on Wednesdays. All classes are now held at the St.Heliers Community Center - Lower Hall.

I also love including different props to keep your body guessing and sculpting while focusing on full-body movements.

For those wanting to try out a Barre Class but not knowing what it's all about, here are some cool facts about this amazing workout:

- It's low impact strengh training

- A fusion of elements of dance, yoga, pilates and other strengh training moves

- Initially Barre was created to be a physio/rehab for injured dancers

- Everything is low impact and it's meant to support your joints and help you develop long, lean, strong muscles.

- It's a challenging workout for all the right reasons! A lot of the moves are compound moves, so you are not only challenging the muscle group, but also your balance and stability at the same time.

- You focus on the small muscles that many exercises don't target so you get to discover new places you never knew could burn!

Come try it out and feel that burn!
