A trip of mixed emotions. Took the Yamaha MT10 SP down to Nelson to trade her in for Triumph 1200GT Pro. The MT10 is a stunning bike, but not such a popular renter. The Triumph, amazing (but who makes a bad bike these days?). I look forward to some adventures on the big Tiger before it joins the fleet.

Returned this new little gem to home base after picking it up from Nelson. A 600km ride yesterday and enjoyed every moment of it. Kawasaki Versys-X 300...brilliant bike.

A wonderful day picking up a new bike from Filco's in Nelson. While there, I had the chance to ride an Aprilia Tuareg and a Tiger 1200 GT Pro, before jumping on the Kawasaki Versys-X 300 I'd bought. After stepping off a bike 4 x the capacity and 3 x the price, the Versys shows itself to be a very good bike. We are certainly spoiled for choice of superb motorcycles right now.

Got oh so lucky with a mid-winter run from Wellington to Maraetai. VERY cold but glorious blue skies and recent snow on the mountains, made for a memorable ride. And what a perfect bike to do it on.

Flying down to Nelson to pick up a stranded bike, and got some great shots out the window of Mount Ngauruhoe and Ruapehu and misty valleys below. I will be riding through there tomorrow. Expecting it to be beautiful...but cold.

A five day / four night trip over to Great Barrier Island (NZ's sixth biggest island) which turned out being a motorcycling surprise package.

A test ride on the new Yamaha MT10 SP to Raglan, taking the wonderful Highway 22. This is a great test of a bike's suspension, as it has plenty of corners, with all types of bumps, from small sharp ones to large sections of subsidence that can have you bouncing out of the seat. The SP model is certainly the right choice with the Öhlins doing its job superbly.

A "covid can't last forever" decision. Bought a new Yamaha MT10 SP from the great guys at Filcos in Nelson, on a hunch that this would make a good bike to tour NZ on. It takes luggage racks for V35 side cases and a top box (yet to fit), a taller screen (if necessary), and a comfort seat (which is on the bike). Then ran it in tiki-touring around the Golden Bay area (the top left of the South Island), before the relatively boring Wellington to Auckland direct route ride. So far... my hunch is right.

Picked up a straggler Honda Africa Twin from Christchurch. A victim of our covid-19 boarder closures and a cancelled tour. Rode from Hanmer Springs to Havelock via the Molesworth station.
