📚Reading with tamariki offers many benefits that extend beyond the joy of storytelling:
🗣 Language Development: Reading introduces children to a variety of vocabulary, sentence structures, and speech patterns, boosting their language skills. Through repetition of words and sounds, children develop stronger communication skills and a deeper understanding of language.
💭 Cognitive Development: Reading activates brain development by encouraging critical thinking, problem-solving, and imagination. As children engage with stories, they learn to make connections, predict outcomes, and explore new ideas.
🔠 Early Literacy Skills: Reading forms the foundation for literacy by introducing concepts such as letters, numbers, colours, and shapes in a meaningful context.
🦸♂️ Social and Emotional Development: Storytelling provides children with valuable lessons about emotions, relationships, and social dynamics. Through characters and storylines, children learn empathy, resilience, and social skills.
Reading with tamariki from an early age enriches their development across many areas, ultimately setting them on a path towards lifelong learning and success 🏆🤩
Happy Mothers Day to all the different types of Mums out there- we see you and appreciate you! 😍💐
🧐Let's take a closer look at what inclusive learning spaces mean for tamariki:
🏡Adapt the physical environment by making sure the space is physically accessible and safe for all tamariki. This includes having furniture at children's level, creating clear and wide pathways and using sensory friendly resources that accommodate different needs eg. quiet spaces.
🫂Create an emotionally supported environment for children by using positive reinforcement, teaching empathy and social skills, and addressing emotional needs. Encourage expression of feelings and make sure they are validated.
👣Demonstrate an inclusive learning environment by reflecting the diverse backgrounds of children and families through culturally diverse books, materials, and resources. Engage with families to incorporate their cultural aspects into the environment and learning activities. This will help foster a secure sense of identity and mana for tamariki.
These are just a few elements that foster inclusive learning, you can find out more information from the MoE here: https://inclusive.tki.org.nz/about-inclusive-education-2/
5 Tips For Landing Your Dream ECE Role!
Here are the best tips and tricks from our Recruitment Manager, Olivia.
1. Be prepared with your relevant work history.
The first thing a recruiter will want to know is if you have a relevant work history for the job you are going up for. The key word here is RELEVANT. This will allow the recruiter to continue with your application. This is especially important in Early Childhood Education as it is a requirement for any Early Childhood job that you have experience working in an Early Childhood Centre. So impress your interviewer by having your relevant work history prepared from the onset.
2. Manners and confidence
Manners go a long way in any interview and are the best practice when making a first impression! However, when applying for a role working with children, manners show that you are a kind, respectful candidate for an ECE centre, which are crucial values for working with children.
3. Be on time, if not 5 minutes before.
Being punctual for an interview and arriving early or on time underscores your reliability and respect for the interviewer's time. It sets a positive tone, allowing you to begin the conversation stress-free and showcasing your professionalism and organizational skills.
4. Prepare a solid philosophy - research into centre philosophies.
Each ECE centre has a philosophy that they will follow. In all her interviews, Olivia asks each candidate about their philosophies to see which ECE centres would be a good match. If you are still determining a philosophy you align with, research before your interview to find one that perfectly suits you and your teaching philosophies.
5. Prep 1-2 unique things about yourself.
Write something that makes you stand out. When an interviewer has a lot of interviews, the most memorable candidates will stand out. Come up with a little paragraph about yourself that either tells the interviewer a little bit about you as a person or something that makes you uniqu
