Skycity always endeavours to ensure their staff are well looked after. At Skycity Hamilton, Burning Red Design, along with Design & Build partner Complete Construction, had the pleasure of updating the existing back-of-house facilities into an enjoyable and relaxing space. Gone is the uninspiring, unused rabbit-warren zones. Staff are now welcomed into a calm and peaceful environment.
With soft wood accents, a charming ‘trailing orchid’ wallpaper with complimentary colours, this uplifting space is going to be great for staff morale.
This revamped space promotes a great community spirit, encouraging staff to use it more often and be proud of their working environment.
Thanks Cintesi Furniture for adding the final touches with the walnut timber furniture.

Something & Social, a new bar and restaurant, has recently opened its doors in Albany, offering a serene and aesthetically pleasing environment. The interior is beautifully designed with soft and calming tones, featuring oak timber detailing and its signature colour palette of navy blue and biscotti. Lush plants and stunning hand-cast glass pendants add an organic touch to the space.
Beyond the indoor beauty, Something & Social also boasts several outdoor areas perfect for relaxation. A large courtyard is available for patrons to enjoy a variety of drinks, while various seating pockets seamlessly flow into the interior, creating a harmonious indoor-outdoor experience. With its fantastic design and inviting atmosphere, Something & Social promises to be a delightful destination for everyone.

Ponsonby's Shoe Clinic has undergone a remarkable transformation. The shift from a teal blue and white palette to a fresh and clean aesthetic with teak timber, charcoal walls and a darkened ceiling shows a keen understanding of contemporary design trends. The new lighting strategy highlights the products on the wall displays and draws attention to the impressive range of footwear. The emphasis on personal service and catering to individual needs is a testament to the dedication of the Shoe Clinic team in providing exceptional customer experiences. This level of attention and care is a key factor in fostering customer loyalty and encouraging repeat business. By combining a visually appealing store design with a commitment to personalised service, Ponsonby's Shoe Clinic is setting itself up for continued success. The careful consideration of both aesthetics and customer satisfaction will likely resonate with both existing and new customers, making their visits to the store memorable and enjoyable. After opening on the 5th December 1967, The Brownzy Sport Bar is on the move.
The bar has undergone a fantastic transformation while maintaining its iconic ambiance. Situated in a new building just down the road from the old bar, the architecture has been impressively designed by HabitusMode.
Burning Red’s interior design approach, blending an industrial and masculine influence with old-style brick walls, dark tones and timber detailing is a winning combination. This design choice not only pays homage to the bar's original charm but also infuses it with a modern touch that caters to contemporary tastes.
The thought put into providing a variety of spaces to cater to different patrons is a strategic move, ensuring that the bar remains appealing and accommodating to a diverse range of visitors including it’s loyal patrons and newcomers alike.
The addition of a large open double-height ceiling space contributes to a more spacious and inviting atmosphere.
One particularly exciting feature is the mezzanine space, which is perfect for hosting functions or events. It comes with its own sunny balcony that provides a pleasant outdoor area for guests to enjoy and allows patrons to enjoy the indoors and outdoors simultaneously.
The move around the corner will provide a fresh perspective and attract new patrons who may have never experienced the bar's old location and essence. Overall though, The Brownzy Sports Bar has managed to retain it’s special character while embracing modern design elements with a fresh and updated vibe.

Eden Park has taken centre stage as a host stadium for the FIFA Women's World Cup, so a well-deserved renovation of the Members Lounge was in order. Burning Red Design recently had the pleasure of working with the amazing SkyCity team to refurbish the SkyCafe. Located on level 50 of Auckland’s iconic Sky Tower, the new SkyBar offers unparalleled panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide guests with a stunning vantage point to admire the city skyline, rolling hills and serene waterfront. The design maximizes these vistas, ensuring that every seat offers an impressive view.
The design elements of SkyBar draw inspiration from the scenic surroundings. Natural materials like wood, stone and lush fabrics create a harmonious ambiance, connecting guests with nature and evoking a sense of tranquility. The lighting is strategically placed to create an inviting and warm atmosphere.
While SkyBar exudes opulence, it does so without being pretentious. Luxurious furnishings, plush seating and beautiful oak timber detailing add a touch of sophistication to the space. The bar area showcases an impressive selection of premium spirits, fine wines, champagne and craft cocktails, inviting guests to indulge in a refined drinking experience.
SkyBar provides an elevated experience where guests can unwind, savor delicious drinks and immerse themselves in the beauty of the surroundings. So, sit back, relax and enjoy the breath-taking views, where nature and luxury seamlessly intertwine.

It’s been a rough start to the year for the Hawkes Bay community so it’s great to see a stunning new bar emerge in the heart of Ahuriri.
Winifred’s Bar and Kitchen has finally opened its doors for everyone to enjoy.
This bar offers a unique experience with a variety of different seating areas both inside and outside in the lush garden courtyard and louvre roof extension. Whether you are looking for a cosy indoor spot or a breath of fresh air in the outdoor areas, this bar has something to offer for everyone.
As you step inside your greeted by a serene and tranquil atmosphere with soft tones and a calm, soothing vibe. The interior design features bespoke timber detailing and a beautifully crafted tiled bar, creating a warm and inviting ambience that will make you feel right at home.
So why not come down to Ahuriri’s West Quay and check out this exciting new bar for yourself. Whether you’re looking for a place to unwind after work or a fun night out with friends, Winifred’s is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy some great food, drinks and fine company.

Hot on the heels of The Good Home Prebbleton December opening comes The Prebbleton Villages’ latest hotspot – 1855 Barbershop.
This Barbershops name is rich in history as 1855 was the year the Prebbles broke ground in the area as the earliest settlers, then shortly after in 1862 the Prebbleton village was established.
The shop interior gravitates towards an industrial feel with exposed structural columns, old brown rustic brick wall cladding and polished concrete floors. Adding a touch of warmth to the space is the rich timber planking on selected walls and the beautifully crafted solid oak work tops.
There’s also a hint of kiwi culture with some classic Gordon Walters prints and some bold coloured Shane Hansen skateboard decks providing a feel-good New Zealand celebration.
With 5 work stations and a wash station, this is the place to go for a quick trim or tidy-up.
Already a bustling hive of activity within the village, 1855 provides a friendly face and quick, efficient service for busy customers.

It’s been a few years since we’ve seen a new Good Home emerge however The Good Home Prebbleton has now opened it’s doors in the heart of Prebbleton Village.
This design is full of fun and interesting elements from the impressive double height oak timber arched back bar to the quirky nooks and crannies for patrons to explore.
A lush garden atrium greets you through the front entry, this then sprawls into the open courtyard that is perfect for the summer months ahead.
A sports den with large screen TV’s, a generous dining room tucked behind the main bar and wild and amusing wallpaper selections all blend together to create an eclectic mix.
Soft and cosy banquette seating invite people into the rear dining room where the history of Prebbleton transpires. With some smart designing, this space can also be glimpsed at through the ground floor bar and from the mezzanine level above.
Head up the elegant staircases to a larger, open planned mezzanine space complete with it’s own bar and sunny balcony. Enjoy the view onto Prebbleton Village or down into the dining lounge below. The interesting use of the ground floor back bar signage also acts as the back drop to the mezzanine… very clever.
Drop by and check out this amazing new gastropub. Enjoy the relaxing environment, soak up the stunning atmosphere, energetic vibe and enjoy the great food and drinks on offer.
And as the main bars feature neon sign says, have ‘a toast to the Prebbles of Prebbleton’.

The final touches were completed this morning at Cleaver & Co in Sylvia Park.
It’s amazing how a lick of paint, new furniture and some gorgeous lush greenery can completely transform a space.

Cellar Bar at Danny Doolans is the newest addition to the Viaduct. Located on the side walkway of Danny Doolans, this basement bar is the perfect place to enjoy a late night out or to book a function. With faux brick lined walls, moulded panelling and oak timber highlights this space radiates warmth and comfort. Sit amongst the luscious plant walls with pops of neon signage, enjoy the plentiful seating options and dance the night away to Cellar Bars personal DJ.

It’s always refreshing to do something a little different and Ponsonby Doctors is definitely a ‘first’ for Burning Red Design.
This new healthcare and accident and urgent care service in Ponsonby is a welcome addition to the neighbourhood. A small friendly boutique practice, Ponsonby Doctors aim to deliver high-quality, personalised medical care in an empathetic, caring and professional manner.
The interior is rich with striking graphics, warm timbers and contemporary lighting so this clinic has that little bit extra than most other healthcare services.
What an interesting project to be involved in… there was definitely plenty of learning curves along the way however we now have a vast wealth of knowledge of all things healthcare!
Thanks to Paul and his team from Retail Connection and Andy, Mike and his guys from Gulf Projects for pulling this project together and providing an impressive end result.

Burning Red Design’s latest endeavour with Jess and the team from Sunday Group is Tauranga’s newest hospitality venue in the heart of the CBD. This eatery is going all out… creative cocktails, a delicious array of taste sensations and a vast selection of delicious wines and beers. From your morning coffee to your late-night nightcap, Nectar has you covered.

The interior is full of lush greenery, it’s like walking into a garden oasis. With bright and vibrant colours, this place is full of fun with striking stripes of colour to elegant locally designed artwork. The charming mural wallpaper dressing the back bar is full of a variety of botanicals creating a tropical backdrop to the brass bar features and handcrafted tiles.
Beautiful handmade glass pendants add that touch of elegance to the ceiling areas, which also showcases the original building’s pressed tin scotia detailing. Comfortable, plush soft seating areas have been designed for patrons to unwind and enjoy this little taste of paradise.
Nectar Eatery has everyone talking… come on in and soak up the vivacious atmosphere.
Sit back, unwind and celebrate this stunning new venue.

The SkyCity 24/7 staff facilities is another successful Design and Build between Burning Red Design and Complete Construction Ltd.
The vision for the project was to create an environment for staff that is equivalent to anything that they would see front of house in the facility and as good as any café around NZ. The objective being to demonstrate the company’s commitment to their people in a tangible and physical form.
The brief from the client was simple – give us the look and feel, make it robust due to the high use but do it in a cost-effective manner.
As the name suggests, this facility is in constant use – 24 hours a day, 7 day’s a week.
The finished surfaces needed to be strong enough to handle this constant use, without creating an institutional feel. From the exposure of services, use of timber vinyl floor planks to low pressure laminate in lieu of solid wood and high wear attractive looking surfaces.
The new facility also doubled in size by utilising the undeveloped mezzanine level of SkyCity’s ground floor restaurant. By gaining this space we created distinct zones within the facility in which staff can grab a quick meal, have a coffee with colleagues, get on a computer to do essential admin and simply chill out in a welcoming environment.
There’s an impressive buffet style servery with fresh cooked meals, an array of drinks and a great selection of fresh fruit and sweets. A separate self-service kitchen provides all the mod cons to heat up last night’s left-overs or make a sandwich.
With a variety of seating arrangements, from timber leaners for larger groups to low tables and clever circular seating with pull together tables, there’s a space for everyone.
Beautiful trailing orchid wallpaper adds to the tranquil, exotic feel and there’s an abundance of lush planting through-out so staff feel like they’ve walked into a different dimension all together.
The aim was to create an environment where staff feel welcome and are proud to be a part of the team.
What an outcome… light, bright and full of character.

We had smooth journey along the way and finished with an impressive end result.

Burning Red Design had the pleasure of working with NZ’s largest litigation firm, MC, to create their new staff café, Te Kãuta situated within their new offices (impressively designed by Jasmax).
MC’s goal for their new office space including the staff café was to create an inspiring workspace. They also wanted to push the boundaries of design and create a space that’s never been seen before.
Burning Red Design's brief was to create a social hub where MC’s 200+ litigators and other staff could gather, be it for lunch, small staff gatherings or social functions with a strong emphasis on celebrating contemporary Aotearoa.
Also creating an environment where staff actually want to be in the office each day, not working from home which is happening more often these days in the modern professional-services industry.
The brief for Te Kãuta from MC was for Burning Red Design to deliver a café that must be the equal of any café on Ponsonby road or Cuba Mall.
The wider space comprises of the café, staff kitchen, barista bar with free coffee for all staff all day.
With the design it was important to express MC’s personality,… it’s all about being vibrant, audacious, making a statement, not being afraid, being bold and moving forward with the times.
With an explosion of bright and earthy colours, the staff social hub is full of energy and life.
By creating different zones, there’s an interesting space for everyone. Beautifully crafted comfortable banquette seating areas and eye-catching murals as the backdrop, casual leaners by the cafe where you can stop for a coffee and a quick chat. We also worked on the firm’s heritage area next to Te Kãuta and outside the training court, giving this space a nod to MC’s 100 year history.
Collaboration between creative branding agency Saturday, Jasmax and Burning Red Design saw Te Kãuta and the whole office make the most of MC’s bold new visual identity. This is highlighted with Te Kãuta’s impressive artwork by Charles and Janine Williams which celebrates Aotearoa’s natural environment from before the arrival of the first waka to the present day.
Gone is the ‘old leather books feel’ you expect from a Law firm to being both credible and audacious.
MC placed a strong emphasis on the space being for their people, a space where staff feel a sense of belonging, are proud to be part of and above all is daring and audaciously bold.
What an amazing outcome, we loved being part of such an adventurous project. Thank you, MC, for being a great client and letting Burning Red Design explore the boundaries of office creativity.

Yah it's about time... Danny's is ready to re-open tonight when the clock hits midnight! Everyone's favourite spot has had a revamp. Burning Red Design's aim was to give Danny Doolans a bit of a re-fresh as it was feeling a little tired. With an enticing new waterside courtyard, comfy cosy nocks and cranky's inside, it has a fresh looking vibe whilst still maintaining that genuine Irish feel. This is the Danny's everyone loves but with a new lease of life so that everyone can keep enjoying this amazing iconic venue for years to come. Thanks to Datum Projects Limited for helping transform one of Auckland's most famous Irish pubs.
