Every so often, a project comes along where you get to think outside the box and have a little fun. For Burning Red Design that was John Barleycorn's Taphouse—a place where tradition meets innovation and where great times are always on tap.
The name itself is inspired by the legendary John Barleycorn, the character who represents the annual barley harvest. More than just a nod to the crop, he symbolises the incredible drinks crafted from barley. What better way to create a cosy, relaxed environment on the rooftop of Westfield Newmarket’s dining precinct.
From the name, everything else came together—from the barley-inspired ambience to the design of John himself, the character at the centre of it all. This is a place where you can catch up with friends, enjoy a family meal, or simply relax while waiting for your partner to finish shopping. It’s for everyone—a comfortable, casual spot where the vibe is always relaxed and great conversations flow.
The design is inspired by the earthy tones of barley, the brown colours cover the angled wall panels and lush planting bring a touch of nature indoors. Glowing hand-blown glass pendants add warmth to the space, casting a welcoming light over the dining area. A striking graffiti mural, featuring John and his missus, brings personality and a touch of playful charm to the scene.
At John Barleycorn’s Taphouse the mission is simple: to offer an atmosphere that honours the tradition of coming together over a pint. Every story matters here and every visit strengthens the bonds of friendship. It's a place for everyone, with a warm, laid-back vibe that encourages great conversations and the kind of memories that last long after the last drink.
Come on down. John Barleycorn’s is waiting and the pints are ready to flow.
