🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️ Join up for the 2024 Cross Recreation Centre Balclutha Half Marathon Event! 🏅

Hosted by the South Otago Athletics Club, the 2024 event features the Cross Recreation Half Marathon, which also serves as the Otago Half Marathon Championships.

In addition to the half marathon, they are offering the McElrea Electrical 10km run/walk, the Calder Stewart 5km run/walk, and the Fairview South Otago Family Fun Run. All participants, except those in the Fairview Family Fun Run, will receive a medal. But don't panic, there’s a special treat for the little ones who complete the fun run.

This year, they’ve revamped the McElrea Electrical 10km course. It’s now a single lap over varied terrain, making it even more exciting! Whether you're a walker, runner, first-timer, veteran, or even using a wheelchair or pram, there's something for everyone.

With plenty of activities in and around the Cross Recreation Centre, it's a fantastic day out for the whole family. Join in for a day of community spirit, fitness, and fun, while supporting the South Otago Athletics Club!

One year ago today the new Beaumont Bridge on SH8 opened, replacing its’s 130 year year old predecessor. It’s well worth stopping to enjoy a wander over both - there is a footpath across the new bridge. There are also are a number of tables in the newly landscaped area to enjoy a picnic

Remember to take extra care on roads tomorrow, as the new school term commences and children return to their classrooms 🚌 🚘 🛑

From Southern District Police:
Did you know that if a school bus has stopped to drop off or pick up tamariki you have to reduce your speed to 20km/h (regardless of the direction you are approaching)? 🚌

It's only a few seconds out of your day, but will make the world of difference if a child were to step out from behind the bus.

The smell of spring is divine, thanks to the lovely lady who dropped off these beautiful flowers - they go perfectly with the stellar spring like days we are enjoying, after some solid morning frosts

‼️‼️❄️ take extreme care on the roads this morning team ❄️

It’s another frosty morning out there today so there are areas of black ice (and visible ice) on the roads. It is currently very slippery on SH1 South of Balclutha but we have reports of the grit trucks on the way. Be especially careful if travelling up Clutha Valley Road as conditions are treacherous.

There are also large patches of fog covering the low lying area which make the ice and road harder to see.

Remember to drive to the conditions and increase your following distances 🥶 ‼️‼️

More specifically, the roads - there's reports of black ice on the roads in a number of places across the districts.

There's also thick fog reported in a number of places.

You know the drill. Please take extreme care driving in wintry conditions.

Slow down, watch your following distance, and pay attention to the roads.
