International Association of Travel and Tourism Professionals. Established in 1934. Connecting Tourism Globally.

Skål International is a professional organisation of Tourism leaders around the world, promoting global Tourism and friendship. It is the only international group uniting all branches of the travel and Tourism industry. Its members, the industry's managers and executives, meet at local, national, regional and international levels to discuss and pursue topics of common interest. The first club was

founded in 1932 in Paris by travel managers, following an educational tour of Scandinavia. The idea of international goodwill and friendship grew and, in 1934, the “Association Internationale des Skål Clubs” was formed with Florimond Volckaert as its first President, who is considered the “Father of Skål”. Skål International today has almost 13,000 members in more than 300 clubs throughout 86 nations. Most activities occur at local level, moving up through National Committees, under the umbrella of Skål International, headquartered at the General Secretariat in Málaga, Spain. Skål International is governed by an Executive Board of 14 Directors, elected by delegates to an annual General Assembly, held during the World Congress, hosted by a different country each year. This allows members first-hand observation of the travel and tourism potential around the world.

Today on World Tourism Day, we celebrate the power of tourism to bring people together and build bridges across cultures.

World Tourism Day has been held on 27 September each year since 1980. The date marks the anniversary of the adoption of the Statutes of the Organization in 1970, paving the way for the establishment of UNWTO five years later.

We had a fantastic lunch at Novotel Christchurch Cathedral Square, thanks to Skålleague Bradley Condor and his team on making it such a great event.
We welcomed out newest members from Savills - Alex Brackstone and Norman Engel, before hearing from Karl Belcher and Georgia Bridley from Pegasus Health talk about their pilot programme on wellbeing support for the hospitality industry. Thanks to Rebecca Rosie from the South Island Office for arranging this.

🌿 Kia ora! Celebrating Māori Language Week! 🌿

This week, we honour the beauty and richness of te reo Māori, the language that carries the stories, traditions, and spirit of Aotearoa New Zealand. Māori Language Week is a time for all of us to embrace and celebrate the unique identity that te reo brings to our nation.

Here in New Zealand our Skål clubs proudly say our Skål Toast in te reo along with English.

Whether you’re a fluent speaker or just learning a few words, every effort to use te reo Māori helps to keep this beautiful language alive and thriving. Let’s take this opportunity to kōrero, learn, and share the language with our whānau and friends.

Mā te reo, ka ora! Through language, we can all flourish.
