abode magazine Jan/Feb issue recently featured a renovation of a mid-century Christchurch home we completed. The project was inspired by its mature garden and the organic curves of nature.

You can read all about it here: www.abodemagazine.co.nz/home/2021/12/14/organic-inspiration

A special shout out to Maree our client for the perseverance and dedication to the project.

ORGANIC INSPIRATION 🌳

The covers came off our Panorama Road, Sumner project a couple of weeks ago. Clients have now moved in. It was satisfying to see it finished.

Well done to Blair and his team at Blair Ward Construction for putting this together.

Our Story

Yardley and Foster is a small practice offering a personal experience in the art of architecture making. We aim to explore New Zealand's local conditions for a timeless style of architecture respecting the past while offering a new creative architectural language; considered, clear, and relevant. Our goal is to create a distinct sense of place and belonging. Form, space, and materials are translated into quality, classic, timeless buildings.

Yardley and Foster Architecture engages with the world around it out-with our own discipline. Within the practice, we are often provoked and inspired by social and cultural issues inherent within cities and the rural landscape, allowing for a response in form and materiality. This understanding and passion for material and technological innovation for detail, craftsmanship, texture, and pattern is something that underpins the philosophy of our business, leading to the future development of buildings which respond but also celebrate the tradition of New Zealand’s innovation and our profound respect of the land. The practice additionally takes great inspiration from New Zealand’s stance and response to sustainability.

Initially, set up in the heart of the Christchurch Business District before the September 2010 Christchurch Earthquake displaced and disrupted business, relocation to Merivale Mall (upstairs) has allowed our practice to settle into a more focused direction. The collaboration between creative directors, Nicholas Yardley and Rochelle Foster has formed a unique partnership. Yardley and Foster Architecture have worked on a wide range of projects specialising in alterations, new homes, retail and small scale commercial projects. We are interested in creating beautifully crafted places and spaces based on a comprehensive study of site, context, landscape and brief creating a backdrop of peoples lives.
