"Travel changes you. As you move through this life and this world you change things slightly, you leave marks behind, however small. And in return, life β and travel β leaves marks on you" - Anthony Bourdain
A very true quote! I have been very lucky in my life to have had some amazing travel experiences both on my own and with my family. My passion for travel is something that I love to share with friends, family and customers - the memories last a lifetime!
One of my most memorable experiences was when my husband and I were given the opportunity to travel to Gallipoli for the 100th Year Commemoration of ANZAC Day. As it was a few months after our wedding, we decided to extend the trip for our honeymoon.
We set off from London, travelling by Campervan from UK through France and Italy. There is no better way to experience a country than having the flexibility to pull off the main road and visit the small villages and meet the locals. If driving on the opposite side of the road at speeds of up to 130km/h is not your style, incorporate rail travel as an alternative to flying between the major cities - you won't regret it!
We then flew across to Greece to stay in Athens which quickly became one of my favourite places to visit! The history and diversity of the city, the sights, sounds and smells and the lovely people all combine to create a memory that will be with me forever.
Gallipoli and Istanbul were the last leg of our 4 week trip away and it was the most moving and rewarding part to our holiday. There will never be another year like 2015 (Commemoration year) and the experience that we were a part of, but every year Kiwis and Australians take part in the dawn service and experience a special moment in our shared history.
Photo: This is our little home away from home! Wicked Campers were amazing and the van was clean and tidy and brand new! It was left hand drive and manual which initially took some getting used to, but we were soon flying down the freeways on our way through France. We are parked outside the Arras Tunnels - a must for any history buff as we explored the underground tunnels of NZ Soliders during WWI
