BREAKING: The hoiho yellow-eyed penguin has come from behind to snag the top perch for for a 2nd time! The hoiho won last in 2019 and joins the kākāpō in being the only birds to win twice.

Unlike last year this year's race was a lot closer with just under 1000 votes (and not like half a million) between the hoiho and the runner up, the karure black robin. Congrats to Tūhura Otago Museum for assembling an outstanding campaign team from across Dunedin.

A huge thanks to all of you who campaigned and voted for your favourite birds, and also all of you who chipped in to support Forest & Bird.

was kind enough to send through some photos he captured during the nature festival.

Have you seen a sea horse or a camouflage crab in the Otago Harbour? They can be extremely tricky to find and spot. These were found close to our Wellers Rock ticket office.

You may have already heard that Wellers Rock Wharf is receiving some attention and getting replaced!

This means that for the month of May and possibly some of June, our Wildlife Cruises will depart on the other side of the harbour at Boiler Point Wharf, Careys Bay.

During this time, the one-hour Wildlife Cruise will actually be two-hours long... FOR NO EXTRA COST. The extra hour will be spent exploring between Quarantine Island and Wellers Rock Wharf.

Cooler weather often brings Southerly winds, which we and the albatross love! It's a great time of year to put some warm layers on and get out on the water :)

Click the 'book now' button on our website to check daily timings and availability. Most cruises depart at 2:00pm and return at 4:00pm.

Call us free on 0800 666 272 for more information, or book online at www.wildlife.co.nz/wildlife-cruise
