Our Men's 1st team headed down to Napier today to face a big challenge against a Taradale AFC side who will be playing their football in Central League 2 this season, after winning promotion from last season's Federation League.
Thistle, who were again under strength with several players missing due to injury or unavailability, started the game poorly and it was no surprise when Taradale opened the scoring early and then went on to add two more goals before the half hour mark. Thistle had opportunities and forced ex-Jag, Hugo Lodewyk, into a good one-handed save to keep them out and the home team went in 3 - 0 up at the break.
A much improved 2nd half performance saw Thistle score 3 goals, and were unlucky not to grab a 4th after a flowing move ended with a Cory Thomson shot hitting the inside of the post, but Taradale's two second half goals saw them take the win they deserved.
Thistle can take huge positives from today's game, especially knowing the team will be considerably stronger once they have all their players available. A number of players put in strong performances, particularly 15 year old Aiden Norris who was called into the matchday squad at the last minute.
We'd like to thank Taradale for today's game and wish them all the very best for their Central League season.
