Renee Boyer - Mid-life career changer

Renee grew up in Auckland, studied in Dunedin, then moved to the UK for seven years before returning to New Zealand and settling in beautiful Whaingaroa, Raglan. She lives with her fiance Daina, 12-year-old kid Lennox, two dogs, three cats, three chickens and two ducks (at last count). She teaches English at Fraser High School and, when time permits, writes a lot of short stories.

After a 20 year career, mostly in office admin and various aspects of tertiary education, I decided to reinvent myself. A series of major life changes were thrust upon me in 2019, so in 2020, in the wake of New Zealand's national lockdown, I took charge of my life and made the biggest change of all. I decided to take a massive pay cut and increase my workload to follow my heart and find a career that made me feel like I was making a difference in the world. This is the story of what happens when you decide to follow a dream.

Dana C Carver: Author

Unexplained ecological mysteries span hundreds of years and multiple continents. Could there be one explanation that brings all the ancient obscurities together? This is the idea that inspired the novel Two Truths. 📖

Dana C Carver wrote her first book at seven years old and won the school's "super writer" award. Since then, her life has not gone to plan and has been that much better for it.

Her journey has seen her live in five states and three countries, wearing many hats including snowboard instructor, personal trainer, coach, motivational speaker, wellbeing specialist, evaluation consultant and author.

She lives in the South Island of New Zealand with her husband, Tony, five ducks, four chickens, three cats and a dog. Dana’s novels are rich and adventurous. They question the status quo and inspire new possibilities.

📢 Speaker announcement for Pechakucha Hamilton on August 5th, 7pm, Gallagher Rooms, Wintec.

Kat Waswo - 'Rediscovering my Creativity'

From Kat "Often when life throws us the tough stuff, we go into 'crisis mode'. But it's these really harsh moments which eventually teach us about our most basic needs and desires. For me, my moment called for creativity. Having just turned 30 with two young kids and struggling with full-time work in the corporate 'rat race' world - my heart, mind and soul did a U-Turn - I finally returned to nurture my childhood talents and discovered the creative industries."

About Kat:
A mid-thirties mum with 'tall person problems', Kat Waswo is a self-described "Jill of all Trades". After making the move to go back to full-time study at age 31, Kat accidentally "changed the channel" of her life and is excited to share her discoveries and inspirations. Celebrating the second birthday of her work-from-home business Wazkat_Productions. Kat is also an active advocate for the local creative arts whilst managing the other many hats which come with parenthood and entrepreneurship.
