In this conversation we talk about where you are now and where you want to get to. To understand your individual circumstances and requirements, we discuss your timeline and the special challenges your journey presents. We do not categorise people into visa boxes, and that is why you will not find detailed information about the many different visa types on our website. Instead, we plan your immigration journey taking into account your personal needs and goals, and by taking the path which is in your best interests to safely reach your journeyโ€™s end.

Since 1992 we have partnered and guided more than 20,000 people from over 125 different countries to achieve their New Zealand dream. Our advisers have industry-leading expertise, and the professional commitment and personal determination, to identify the best immigration solutions and pathways for our clientsโ€™. Immigration work can be challenging but at Pathwaysยฎ we love what we do and are always up for the challenge. We are especially privileged that our work additionally rewards us with so many life-long friends.

Immigration journeys have life-changing consequences, and helping someone achieve their dream is what gets us out of bed in the morning.

Pathways to New Zealandยฎ has a long association with the horse racing industry, assisting many New Zealand horse trainers with visas for their jockeys and trackwork riders. In recognition of this association Pathwaysยฎ has, for the past 13 years, been a key race sponsor on Waikato Cup day, held at the Te Rapa Racecourse in Hamilton every December. ๐Ÿ‡

This year our sponsored race was won by โ€œSweynesdayโ€ trained by Roger James & Robert Wellwood at Cambridge, and ridden by Japanese jockey Masa Hashizume. This was a wonderful result as Roger and Robert are longstanding clients, and Masa is also a Pathwaysยฎ client! In his presentation speech Robert recognised the importance of international workers to the industry, and paid tribute to the visa work Pathwaysยฎ does to support the industry. Masa is having a great season and is currently second in the New Zealand Jockey Premiership. ๐ŸŽ‰

And there was another connection! โ€œSweynesdayโ€ has international owners who also share in the ownership of English Premier League team Leicester City โ€“ which is Richardโ€™s long time EPL favourite club!

Many thanks to The Waikato Thoroughbred Racing Club for putting on a great day of racing and hospitality. ๐Ÿ†

Within the Pathwaysยฎ team, Martin King mostly works with doctors and other healthcare professionals with their work and residence visa requirements. ๐Ÿฅโœˆ๏ธ

Martin has partnered with Richard Howard and the leadership of the Pathwaysยฎ since 2007. He now splits his time between Pathwaysยฎ and our associated medical recruitment business NZDr - New Zealand Doctor recruitment. ๐Ÿค

He is very experienced with the various regulatory requirements for medical professionals moving to New Zealand and can advise upon and assist with both the medical registration and immigration processes. ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ“‹

Experienced with a wide variety of immigration work, Martinโ€™s casework primarily involves Specific Purpose Work Visas for short term locum contractors, Accredited Employer Work Visas and Green List Residence applications, as well as Employer Accreditation and Job checks for medical practices. ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿฉบ

When not working (which is very rarely!), Martin likes to keep fit with a morning run ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ, but above all, it's family time with his wife and children that takes precedent, especially any opportunity to see his children perform on stage as their professional careers in the dance world evolve. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ๐ŸŽญ

If youโ€™re a medical professional seeking assistance with your registration and immigration, as well as seeking suitable employment in NZ, Martin is always ready and available to have a chat about your eligibility and options, and to help plan your move to New Zealand. ๐Ÿ“ž๐ŸŒ

Anthony Callaghan has been a cornerstone of the immigration industry since 2000 and has been with Pathwaysยฎ since March 2003. He claims that this tenure only makes him wise, not old! ๐Ÿง

Born in Liverpool, England, ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Anthony moved to New Zealand with his family in 1976 at the age of four. He pursued his education at Auckland University, where he obtained his BA/LLB in 1995 ๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿ“œ. In 2000, he was admitted to the High Court as a barrister and solicitor โš–๏ธ. Now, he resides in the picturesque town of Cambridge.

Anthonyโ€™s expertise spans all aspects of immigration work, with a particular focus on complex cases involving deportation matters and clients with medical or character issues. He has successfully represented numerous clients in oral hearings before the Immigration and Protection Tribunal, earning commendations from the Tribunalโ€™s chairman for the quality of his representation. ๐Ÿ‘

Additionally, Anthony has played a significant role in enabling the reunification of families within Hamiltonโ€™s East African community and has a close working relationship with the Cambodian Buddhist temple in Ohaupo. He also maintains close relationships with several corporate clients. ๐Ÿค

Outside of his professional life, Anthony is an avid cricket๐Ÿ and combat sports enthusiast, and a dedicated Liverpool supporter ๐Ÿ”ด.

The Government is making changes to provide open work rights to more partners of migrant workers, allowing them to work for any employer in any position in New Zealand, provided such employment is compliant with New Zealand laws. ๐ŸŒŸ

This change is much needed as, currently, many partners can only work for accredited employers and must be paid the median pay. The change will help families stay together and attract the workers New Zealand needs to fill gaps in sectors facing skill and labour shortages.

๐—™๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—บ ๐Ÿฎ ๐——๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐—ฒ๐—บ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฐ, open work rights will be available to:
โžก๏ธ All partners of Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) holders working in ANZSCO Level 1-3 roles and earning at least $25.29 an hour.
โžก๏ธ Partners of AEWV holders earning at least $25.29 an hour if they were already supporting a partner for a work visa on 26 June 2024.
โžก๏ธ All partners of Essential Skills work visa holders earning at least $25.29 an hour.

Additionally, open work rights will be available to partners of AEWV holders working in ANZSCO Level 4-5 roles if they meet certain wage criteria, such as:
โžก๏ธ Earning at least $47.41 an hour (150% of the standard median wage), or
โžก๏ธ Earning at least $31.61 an hour in a role on the Green List and meeting the Green List requirements for that role, or
โžก๏ธ Earning at least $25.29 an hour (80% of the standard median wage) and meeting the requirements of a role in the Transport or Care Sector Agreements (or the wage specified in the sector agreement, whichever is higher).

Current holders of Partnership-based work visas with specific employment conditions can apply to vary their visa conditions to switch to open work rights if their partner meets any of the above situations. ๐ŸŒŸ

The latest figures from Statistics NZ show some notable shifts in New Zealandโ€™s migration patterns over the past year. For statistics purposes a migrant is someone who is changing, for a period of 12 months or more, their country of residence, regardless of their country of citizenship or visa status.

In the year ending August 2024, New Zealand recorded 188,100 migrant arrivals, a 17% decrease compared to the previous year, while 134,300 migrants left the country, resulting in net annual migration gain of 53,800. This figure includes a net gain of 109,900 non-New Zealand citizens (mainly driven by citizens of India, Philippines and China) and a net loss of 56,100 New Zealand citizens (81,200 departures less 25,100 arrivals of NZ citizens).

However, the monthly net gain just in the month of August was only 3,000 migrants and if this downward trend continues, as expected, we would expect to see monthly net migration turn negative in the first half of next year ๐Ÿ“‰.

The Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO) groups jobs together into "occupations" that have similar tasks and responsibilities, and โ€œallocatesโ€ these with a particular skill level ranging from 1 to 5, with 1 being the most skilled and 5 being the least.

๐Ÿ“Š ANZSCO was first published jointly by Australian Bureau of Statistics and Statistics New Zealand in 2006. Immigration New Zealand (INZ) has subsequently relied on ANZSCO to assess skill-based work and residence visa applications based on the visa applicantโ€™s main job tasks and, more recently, the ANZSCO is being used for Job Check applications made under the Accredited Employer Work Visa scheme.

๐Ÿงฎ Statistics New Zealand has now announced they are introducing a new occupation classification system called the National Occupation List (NOL) to replace the ANZSCO. The NOL will focus on New Zealandโ€™s specific needs, and will allow StatsNZ to add new and emerging occupations which better align with our local job roles and skills.

๐Ÿ“… The first version of the NOL will be released on 20 November 2024. However, INZ will continue using ANZSCO until it transitions to the NOL which is expected to happen during 2025.

๐Ÿ†• Stay tuned for more updates!

Hello and Welcome to Pathways to New Zealand Immigration

Honesty, integrity and trust are important to us, we're old fashioned that way.

Every immigration journey begins with a conversation. In this conversation we talk about where you are now and where you want to get to.

To understand your individual circumstances and requirements, we discuss your timeline and the unique challenges your journey presents. We do not categorise people into visa boxes and that is why you will not find detailed information about the many different visa types on our website.

Instead, we plan and manage your journey specific to your personal needs and goals. Our guiding principle is to always act in the best interests of our clients.
