The 7.3 magnitude earthquake that struck Port Vila is heartbreaking, especially just before Christmas in this small, deeply Christian nation. We continue to hear of a climbing death toll, widespread damage and devastation for so many.

At Pinnacle, we value our strong connections with the Pasifika community, including our partnerships with K'aute Pasifika Trust and South Waikato Pacific Islands Community Services.

We recognise the resilience of the people of Vanuatu as they come together to support each other. To our Pasifika patients, colleagues, and partners, if this earthquake has affected you or your loved ones, please know you are in our thoughts. As an organisation, we are considering how we can support Vanuatu in this difficult time, and we know many others will be doing the same.

🚨 National whooping cough epidemic alert - here's what to know🚨
A national epidemic of whooping cough (also known as pertussis) has been declared, with cases rising across Aotearoa. Whooping cough is particularly severe for pēpi (babies), pregnant people, and those with chronic conditions.
💉 Vaccination is key —including boosters at 4 years and 11 years.
🔴 Watch out for symptoms:
• Severe cough, often followed by vomiting
• Difficulty breathing or gasping
• A "whooping" sound after coughing (especially in young children)
• Infants may not "whoop" but may struggle to breathe
If you or your whānau experience any of these symptoms, see your healthcare professional immediately.
📝 Remember: stay up to date with immunisations, especially vulnerable groups:

Te Kiingi o Te Kotahitanga, Te Kiingi o Te Aroha, Kiingi Tuuheitia Pootatau Te Wherowhero VII
Kua riro koe ki tua o pae maumahara. E te Kiingi, e moe, e moe, e moe.
Rire Rire Hau Paimaarire
E kore e mutu ngā mihi, e kore e mutu ngā roimata.

It was with great sadness to hear of the passing of Kiingi Tuheitia this morning. We extend our deepest condolences to the whānau, Waikato-Tainui, and all Māoridom on this profound loss for all of Aotearoa New Zealand.
Kiingi Tuheitia inspired us as a nation, through his leadership and commitment to his people. We acknowledge his mana and the significant contribution he made to Aotearoa.
We will remember Kiingi Tuheitia's dedication, alongside that of his mother, the late Te Arikinui Dame Te Atairangikaahu, to improving the health and wellbeing of Māori. His powerful calls for Kotahitanga and unity, most recently at his Koroneihana, will be a lasting reminder of his legacy. Our thoughts and aroha are with all those who grieve today.
'Kotahi te kōhao o te ngira e kuhuna ai te miro mā, te miro pango, te miro whero’. (‘There is but one eye of the needle, through which white, black and red cotton must pass.’)
Naa Kiingi Pootatau.

Antimicrobial resistance is when bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites change over time and no longer respond to antimicrobial medicines, like antibiotics. When this happens infections become harder to treat and there is an increased risk of the infection spreading. Preventing infection and using antimicrobials (such as antibiotics, antivirals, antifungals and antiparasitics) appropriately are key ways of fighting antimicrobial resistance.
