Enjoy a short bush walk at Jacobs Bay and choose between lunch at Te Rawa Lodge or a picnic and farm tour at Wilson Bay.

2️⃣ Postie's Day Off - Sunday Cruise:

Join us for the Postie’s Day Off Sunday Cruise! While there’s no mail to deliver, it’s still a full-day journey through the remote beauty of Pelorus Sound/Te Hoiere. The Postie's Day Off cruise includes a 45-minute bush walk through native bush in the Dillon Bell Reserve. A picnic lunch/farm tour or lunch at Te Rawa Lodge and the final leg sees us arriving at Hopai Bay Farm, home to the Gerard family. The garden around the main farm homestead has evolved over the last 30 years, and is nestled into the hillside, meandering around old sheep tracks, through regenerating natives and down to the sea.

The Pelorus Sound / Te Hoiere is the prime location for the mussel farming industry due to its clean and nutrient-rich waters, particularly for green-lipped mussels (Perna canaliculus). In New Zealand, spat (juvenile mussels) are collected from natural sources, such as seaweed on Ninety Mile Beach, or grown in hatcheries. These young mussels are then transferred to farms, like the one pictured, where they are cultivated until they reach market size. The quality and availability of spat is crucial for the industry's success, as they determine the future supply of these delicious mussels to supermarkets, restaurants, and for nutrition and dietary supplements!
