Please be mindful of what you can flush at dumping stations.

Wet wipes do not decompose, meaning they do not break down in water.

Recently, Council has seen a surge in freedom campers and motorhome users flushing wet wipes into our effluent dumping stations, blocking the pipes.

In the first incident, the Council was able to unblock the pipes ourselves by pulling a huge wad of wet wipes that was sitting on top out of the gulley trap.

In the last two incidents, Council was forced to seek external help from Kiwi Waste to clear the blockages caused by wet wipes.
This is an expensive and unnecessary cost that falls on the shoulders of ratepayers.

Remember, also that we are not able to flush wet wipes down toilets in residential properties either… causes the same nasty blockages.

AROHA MAI

Council wishes to advise that on Thursday, 30 June from 11:30am until 1:30pm the Council Offices, District Library, i-SITE and Maurie Kjar Memorial Swimming Pool complex will be closed to the public.
This is to allow Council to hold the annual Health and Safety Awards for our staff - as we value them and their safety, just as we value the health and safety of our rohe.
The awards will close off a week of celebrations for Matariki 2022 - where Council has celebrated those who have passed on, those who have contributed so much to our district (our kaumatua) and also celebrated our rangatahi with the Star Quest....
now its time to celebrate and recognise those within our organisation who have worked hard and smart to keep themselves and their team members healthy and safe during the past 12 months.
We will all be back on deck at 1:30pm to serve our valued customers and community.
Nga mihi nui
