All the houses at “Northland Cottages” sit on the Purerua Peninsula, nestled among 22 hectares of beautiful New Zealand bush. With Manuka, Kanuka, and more native trees surrounding you, you will really feel at home in nature. The lower cottage looks out across the inlet and is shaded by the branches of a striking Pohutakua Tree that sits on the shore line. These trees entertain numerous native bir
ds including Tui, Fan Tails, and our very own breeding pair of Kiwis (which unfortunately means no dogs allowed on the property). When in season, guests can enjoy picking and eating fresh Oysters that are a mere 10 feet from the house, allowing guests to sit on the deck and enjoy some of New Zealand best fresh seafood. With night fishing for Flounder a must, grab a flashlight and head into the shallow water off the deck to catch your own dinner. These are only a few things to do at the house, with so many more like kayaking, exploring the 2 private beaches, and following the trails through the bush to catch incredible glimpses of the glow-worms that live on the property. With a rich history behind the property, one can never be bored when experiencing the beauty and wondrous nature that the Northland Cottages has to offer. The property contains six cottages and a sleep out next to Pohutakawa Cottage on the beach. The property is perfect for small or large family parties as well as a retreat for artists, book clubs, small weddings or anniversaries. It’s a great place for children with lots of room to run, explore, swim and kayak.
