We have been busy painting inside Glendale over the winter and what a difference, just one bedroom to go. New drapes in the living area are up and looking good too.

Toilet upgrade finished in time for guests who arrive next weekend. Thanks to local tiler David Harwood for the transformation. View of the mountains looking good with snow when the fog finally cleared.

A nice sunny day in Manapouri after a good frost. We are enjoying the view from Glendale looking down the Waiau River, between doing some painting inside.

It's been a busy week at Glendale. The old steel windows were taken out of the bathroom, toilet & bottom bedroom & replaced with double glazed aluminum ones. A bedroom wall was battened, insulated, gibbed, gib stopped, sanded & then we started painting. Thanks to Parrot, our local builder for being available when we needed him.
We are all cleaned up & it's ready for guests who arrive òn Monday.

Boaties launch your boat, bring the trailer back and walk 2 mins down walkway to the jetty when staying at Glendale. The new floating jetty is in place beside the upgraded slipway at Manapouri. The walkway to Pearl Harbour from the carpark next to Glendale has some new non slip strips making it safer.

REVITALISATION FOR MANAPOURI GOING AHEAD

Revitalisation in Manapouri is scheduled to go ahead early September 2022.

The project includes replacement of the Manapouri boat ramp and adjacent gabion wall, a new jetty, an upgrade of View Street car park and Otta seal application on Fraser’s Beach Road.

Southland District Council project manager Phil Fahey says “part of the upgrade works on the View Street car park will involve some additional drainage and planting to help stabilise the face below the car park.

“The car park will be fitted with car stops to encourage sensible parking for both cars and cars with boat trailers.”

The existing toilets at Pearl Harbour and Fraser’s Beach will be replaced and an additional toilet will be installed opposite the old church on Waiau Street.

To manage the dust on Fraser’s Beach Road, around the corner from Pearl Harbour, the gravel road will be treated with Otta seal. This is a cheaper alternative to chip seal and will help suppress the dust. The treatment should last around seven to 11 years.

The projects were identified in Council’s 2021-2031 Long Term Plan, and Council applied to the Tourism Infrastructure Fund (TIF) for funding to carry out the work. To qualify, public consultation was undertaken.

The proposed budget for the Manapouri project is between $1.3 million and $1.7 million.

Another successful TIF application by Council has enabled the construction of one new toilet and renewal of two boat ramps in Te Anau.

The total TIF funding for the Manapouri and Te Anau projects is around $2.4 million.

The Manapouri project will take approximately 10 to 12 weeks to complete and is due to be finished before Christmas.

The weather is warming up so it's a great time to book a break away in Manapouri. Glendale has plenty of nights available. The walking track from Pearl Harbour to Frasers Beach is an easy short walk from Glendale with some good scenery along the way.
