đŸ”„ Restricted fire season for entire Wairarapa đŸ”„

Fire and Emergency New Zealand is placing the entire Wairarapa into a restricted fire season from 8am Monday 9 December 2024, until further notice.

This means the Inland Central, Inland Northern, South Wairarapa and Western Ranges fire zones join the Northern, Central and Southern Coast zones already in a restricted fire season.

A restricted fire season means anyone who wants to light an open-air fire will need a fire permit authorised by Fire and Emergency, which can be applied for at www.checkitsalright.nz.

The Wairarapa continues to rapidly dry out due to hot, windy weather. These conditions mean escaping fires will be fast moving and very hard to bring under control.

Permitting fires with strict conditions helps to reduce the risk of unwanted fires. However, we would rather everyone holds off lighting fires at all if you can.

Please people also avoid activities that can generate heat and/or sparks and cause fires, such as mowing the lawns, welding or grinding, and using vehicles in long dry grass, particularly during the hottest parts of the day. These all have the potential to start a devastating wildfire.

It’s time for an introduction!

We are Bill Rainey & Kayla Hazeldine, and these are our boys, Cooper, Oscar & Louie.

We’re excited to share that we are the new owner-operators of Amalgamated Helicopters NZ. Bill is an experienced pilot with nearly 15 years up his sleeve; 7 of those were here with JD. We appreciate this opportunity to carry on with what JD & Sally have built and we wish them all the best in this next stage of their lives.

We’ll continue offering the same quality services throughout Wairarapa and the lower north island. We’ll continue operating the MD500e, ZK-INZ. The location remains the same at 625 Chester Road.

If you have any queries about an upcoming job or trip, give Bill a call on 027 467 8507. We will continue to run JD & Sally’s phones and emails for a while so you can get a hold of us that way too.

Don’t be a stranger, drop in for a chat.
We look forward to meeting you all along the way!

Cheers,

Bill & Kayla

Our Last Post
As the sun sets over the Tararuas, it is with mixed emotions that we make this last post; many will know that we have sold AHNZL and will be moving on to new things very soon.
First, we want to thank the Wairarapa and the Greater Wellington Region, our clients, and suppliers; it is with heartfelt gratitude for your loyalty and support over the last 25 years; without that, AHNZL would not have become the business it has, thank you all.
We have sold to Bill Rainey and his partner Kayla Hazeldine. Many of you will know Bill, and many will have flown with him or had your farming aerial work done by Bill when he worked for us a few years back. Bill is a pilot we can hand-on-heart recommend, and we don’t think we could have left AHNZL in better hands.
What’s next for us – well, we are thrilled to embark on our next chapter. First, we are going to take a gooooood holiday, after that a bit of travel and a bit of farming. We think we will wing it after that, but as active relaxers, you can be assured that we will have a full agenda!

All the best, and once again, we want to express our deepest gratitude for your support and loyalty over the years. Thank you.

Kind Regards
JD & Sal:D

The Roar has been and gone (that’s a hint to anyone a bit sensitive to the whole hunting thing to avert your eyes from this post; we apologize; we are not purposely offending your sensitivities). most parties had success to varying degrees; all reported seeing and hearing the stags and most brought out veni for the freezer which all came standard with the positives of getting out into the backcountry with all that it offers, for many it’s the top 4 inches that get the benefits from a hit of NZ nature, getting out into the bush and backcountry with a few mates for a break, a chit-chat over a few brews, and, if they were lucky, some of Mum's cake. Immmm, Mum's Cake and a hot brew—nothing like it after a hard day on the hill.
As with past years, this is just a cross-section of what came out this year; ob’s we can’t put them all up, so sorry if yours isn’t up.

The 600N is out and about servicing some of our more remote lighthouses; nice spot to eat your lunch JD.
Grandee (JD) picked up a new crewman for the holidays, a bit of a chip off the old block aye, and Jarods back to those chilly early mornings on the Ag front brrrr
All this while getting our hunters safely in and out of the Tararua’s for the Roar

Good afternoon all. We have had a few weddings just recently, and the hills make for some memorable wedding photos, that's for sure, It's not the usual wheelhouse for our ground crew, but they put their best foot forward; our chief pilot even roped in as the witness for one couple!

The Tararua Forest Park can be a fickle place but when it turns on a day like this it’s a joy to have the opportunity to fly around in.
A picture of 2 of our machines ZK-INZ and ZK-IJD up on check at the NZ legendary engineer’s hangar, 369 ltd’s Neil Laing, we are so appreciative of Neil and his unrivalled expertise with the MD Helicopters, we know our maintenance has been in the safest hands for over 20 years.
Another training day with Wairarapa Land SAR volunteer’s, we have got to give a big shout out to these people, they do the hard yards on the ground looking for lost and injured people in our backcountry, it’s a pleasure to work alongside them. We were involved in a SAR for a missing man on the Kapiti Coast, which had a good outcome with the lost party being found on day 3
Fishermen in, fishermen out, it’s been like the “Hokey Cokey” of fishermen this year, with locals and a few overseas clients, one arriving in his own helicopter, but still choosing to fly with the local knowledge aye 😉

Welcome rain last night 😊, our farming community in the Wairarapa will be relieved, the dry conditions were starting to bite. We have been to a few fires recently, one was in young pines with plenty of fuel, it had the potential to escalate into a big fire, luckily it was spotted early and with a combined effort from FENZ fire teams it was snuffed out in its tracks.
Few picks here of our machines MD500 and ourMD600N at three of the fires we were called to.

On the 14th Feb we were visited by the Wairarapa Rescue Trust and presented with some great additions to our SAR kit, Hi-Vis vest, SAR Radios with tracking ability, so we can track our ground crew when they are deployed on a rescue, also an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
We greatly appreciate this kit, a big thank you must go out to the Wairarapa Rescue Trust and all those that sponsor and donate to the Trust from our community, this equipment will benefit “our local area” in times of emergency, save lives and keep families together.
Come on Wairarapa!!! get behind your local Rescue Trust - If you wish to donate or sponsor, please contact the Wairarapa Rescue Trust via Trustee - Sam Milligan email: [email protected]
