Locals Tours Are Returning To The Shire!
Operating Thursdays, Fridays selected Saturdays throughout the month of July 2023.

Hobbiton Movie Set will be welcoming Matamata residents through the farm gates and into the Village of Hobbiton for a special rate of $20 per person with children under 8 years old free with a paying adult. 100% of the funds raised from ticket sales will be donated to the Matamata Fire Service.

This is an opportunity for locals to experience the real Middle-earth at Hobbiton Movie Set that brings travelers from around the world to the heart of the Mighty Waikato region in rural Matamata. Residents who are up for the adventure, will explore the lush pastures of The Shire on a guided walking tour around the enchanting village of Hobbiton as featured in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit Trilogies.

Locals Tours are an initiative run by Hobbiton Movie Set to share the slice of Middle-earth in Matamata resident’s own backyard and give back to the supportive local community.

In past years, Locals Tours have been a huge success with Hobbiton Movie Set donating to local charities and organizations including; St John, Pohlen Hospital, Matamata Community Health Shuttle, Matamata Community Patrol and more.

General Manager Tourism Shayne Forrest says “It is great to be able to offer these tours so our valued locals can share in the magic of The Shire while contributing back to their own community”.

Matamata residents can book these tours by visiting the Matamata isite at 45 Broadway, Matamata with proof of address.

A bit late as we were only just informed but the rubbish collection is in fact today (Friday), not tomorrow. If you didn't manage to get your pink bags out, they will do a pick up tomorrow morning, but your wheelie bins will have to wait another 2 weeks.
