A Milestone for Air Napier and Hawke's Bay! 🌍✈️

Earlier this year, Air Napier proudly received certification from New Zealand Customs and the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) enabling us to facilitate direct international arrivals and departures. Yesterday, we witnessed the power of this achievement firsthand as we welcomed Talofa Airways and their Twin Commander, arriving directly from Samoa for maintenance work right here in Napier. What a flight! Our FBO service was in full swing, ensuring seamless handling from touchdown onwards.

Maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) are critical to keeping aircraft ready for the skies, and opening these doors for our local aviation maintenance providers such as Flightcare Limited in Hawke's Bay is truly priceless. This step forward is not just about economic growth but also about showcasing to the world what we can achieve here in Napier with advanced aviation engineering work.

Since 1993, Air Napier has been an integral part of our community, and this marks the next chapter in our rich history. While we may be a regional airline, our impact is far-reaching—promoting Hawke's Bay and providing essential services regionally, nationally, and globally.

Presenting the women of Air Napier 💪 Maxine, our Office Manager & Steph, our Deputy Operations Manager ✈️ These 2 ladies put together add up to over 50 years' worth of aviation experience.

💖 Maxine (left), has an extensive background in Accounting and HR Management in the aviation and tourism industries. At Jetgo in Australia, Maxine oversaw their Accounts and HR 📊 She played a major role in growing the team from 18 to a whopping 115 members! 🚀 After her Australian adventure, Maxine dipped her toes into Real Estate Accounting and a large logistics company before landing her here with us at Air Napier!

✨ Steph (right), is the first female at Air Napier with piloting experience 🛫🙌 She began her aviation journey in 1999. She took flight with the RAF (UK) as a Flight Operations Officer! ✈️ Working predominantly with Hercules and Harrier aircraft. Steph rocked it in various roles across the globe, as well as in the Air Warfare Centre, Force HQ and Combined Air Operations Centre in Qatar 🌍 She's seen it all, being deployed to numerous Worldwide locations 🫢and on-board hanging out in an aircraft carrier.

🛩️ Last week during the Art Deco Napier festivities, John Hamilton, our Operations Director was onboard one of the five Harvard aircraft in the Art Deco flypast. The aircraft are all ex-Royal New Zealand Air Force aircraft and part of the 202 Harvards that the RNZAF used for advanced pilot training during World War 2 and later as basic pilot trainers until their retirement in 1977.

The flypast was a sight to behold. With smoke trailing behind them, the Harvards painted a beautiful dance against the clear Napier sky 🛩️💨☀️

For John, this flight held a special significance. A nostalgic reunion with the aircraft that had shaped his early days as a pilot having completed his basic pilot training on the Harvard at Wigram in 1974 and 1975. He later went to hold command and leadership appointments at all levels of the RNZAF culminating with a four-year period from 2002-2006 as the Chief of Air Force at the two-star level in the rank of Air Vice-Marshal.

Here’s more of what we got up to during that first few weeks of the flood emergency in the region:

💼 Supported six government flights carrying the then Prime Minister and other Ministers, along with military senior leaders.

🪖 Acted as the maintenance hub for NZ Defence Force during the evenings.

👩‍🍼 Flew back five first-time mothers to Wairoa District Council after giving birth.

🏢 Provided ground handling services for 72 military aircraft and personnel from Australia.

🛬 Managed 22 arrivals and departures of the Defence Australia Force C27 Spartan.

⚕️ Over 350 flights flown to Wairoa including over one thousand patients and medical staff.

🕊️ Remembering together, Hawke’s Bay 🌀 Air Napier is honoring the resilience and unity shown one year after Cyclone Gabrielle🌊

We were there and experienced the devastating floods that swept through our community. Days without electricity, not knowing when we’d be able to get a hot meal or shower. But we were also there, and dare we proudly say, that we served the community once we were able to.

A big shoutout and massive thanks to all the volunteers and staff for stepping up. The flood relief efforts were made much more possible with you awesome people! 👊

Here are just some of the things we achieved together during that time:

✈️ Saw over two thousand passengers fly in by fixed-wing aircrafts and Helicopters, including police and medical staff from around New Zealand.
📦 Moved approximately 500 tonnes of freight and emergency supplies, some of which is on behalf of NEMA.
🚢 Transferred freight off HMNZS Canterbury and HMNZS Manawai for onward air movements to Wairoa District Council and Gisborne District Council
💵 Enabled $41million to be flown through the East Coast for the Reserve Bank of NZ mainly to Gisborne.
😷 Six patients flown to Palmerston North for emergency cancer treatment.
💊 Over 10,000 kgs of urgent medicine, medical and oxygen supplies flown to Wairoa.
