There will be water stations and sunblock at the venue, but I strongly encourage to bring your own sun smart stuff too. You can never have to much slip slop and slappage!
A reminder to be at the Velodrome at 12.30pm to make sure you are there for the opening ceremony. And definitely if you are taking the bus!

A little refresh in the School House with amazing new artwork from Sirpa Art. These ones remind me of riding Kaiteriteri on a typically awesome Tasman day. And yes, these original paintings are also for sale!
I can't think of a better place to host an art's festival than Nelson (but we may be biased). Keep an eye out for the program coming out next month.

It's been a long process and easy to forget what we started with, so I've had a look through and created some before and after (and some during) images.
We've had the photographer through, the pics are looking great and we're basically ready to start taking bookings. The website is getting a few tweaks this week so if you know anyone interested, get them to PM us or call 0272216768. What are we offering? - Apartment 1 (The School House) is a four-bedroom unit and the floorplan is of the original 1860 School House. - Apartment 2 (The matrons rooms) is a 2 bedroom unit with a separate side entrance.
Current prices - Apartment 1 (4-bed) $900/night - Apartment 2 (2 bed) $450/night.
All bedrooms include heated tile floor ensuites and each apartment has its own kitchen, dining and lounge areas for relaxing as a group. Both units share the private inner courtyard with the old safe now doing duty as a beer/wine cooler. Off-street parking available.
Bit late, but lasts night 'open door' event was a great success. Thanks for everyone who came and made it such a great evening. We'll be posting photos soon and updating the website to actually show something interesting. We will also be open for taking bookings from next week once these little details are sorted, stay tuned for a 'first visitors' special!

As well as re-tasking the School House from offices into accommodation, we've been re-tasking a few other bits and pieces. The framing from the lowered ceiling is about to become the main dinning table. The old battered roof vents have been turned into bird houses designed to attract both bigger birds like Tui and the Ruru, as well as smaller options for the Tauhou and TÄ«titipounamu, we'll see how they go. We've also chosen to go with recycled plastic composite decking for the courtyard. Finally, the old classroom walls with student graffiti from the 1860-1880 era still intact, have been re-instated!
Cleaner-House Manager needed. As the exterior starts getting it's first coats we need to start getting ready for bringing the School House back to life with actual guests!
But we're looking for more than just a cleaner, we are on the lookout for someone to take care of the building, go above and beyond in keeping it spotless, top up the wine cooler and look for opportunities to improve our visitor experience.
There's no customer interaction and hours will obviously vary, but we'll be paying accordingly for the right person.

So we're now into Feb and getting close to completion, here's a couple of progress pics including checking wall space for our Sirpa Art originals which will be going in and available for purchase!
Quick holiday update showing some of the awesome work put in by the builders CMoore and Bennetts Plumbing
New roof is just about complete (shout coming up) and the old wiggly tim needs to go. If you’re after some come and talk to Nathan.
So our first re-built dormers are complete and provide a small hint as to the traditional colour scheme to follow.
Roof repair and replacement is going well. At some stage in the past a tower was removed which left a structural 'hole' in the peak of the roof which the team are having to reconstruct. We also got Bennett's Plumbing in to see if they can repair / restore one of the existing roof vents. When they saw what we had they said "Oh we made these"! Bennett's have been Nelson Plumbers for at least 120 years! We paid a visit to the workshop and not only do they have the original equipment, they even have many of the original patterns for making the new vents! Love the fact that not only are we restoring a heritage building, but we're using original suppliers and equipment to do so, so a BIG thanks to Bennett's!
Scaffolding is up and part of the roof has been lifted. To keep the original trusses and sarking boards that make up the unique ceiling in full view we're lifting the roof to apply insulation to the OUTSIDE of the ceiling. While we're doing that we'll also be replacing the tired old corrugated iron. The current test section is to check wood condition and see if there's major work to do on the beautiful dormers which are part of the original schools 'air conditioning'. The dormer inserts have been removed and cleaned up the CMoore team and they are looking amazing. Especially considering they are now 162 years old!
