CLOSED! Please see most recent post for the winner 🌸

With opening night only days away, Driving Miss Daisy New Plymouth has the privilege to have two of our very own Daisies in the cast of Urinetown the Musical!

In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets

In a mad attempt to regulate water consumption, the government has outlawed the use of private toilets
The citizenry must use public, pay-for-use amenities owned and operated by the corrupt and iron-fisted Caldwell B. Cladwell
The privilege to p*e is expensive, draining and dangerous. Anyone who refuses to pay to p*e is immediately and without question hauled off to Urinetown.

You have the chance to win 2x tickets to opening night, Wednesday August 28th, 2024, with transportation to and from the show with Driving Miss Daisy.

To enter the giveaway, all you need to do is:

-Tag a friend you’d see the show with and share this post
*1 comment/share = 1 entry*

Entries CLOSE on Sunday, August 25th at 12:00pm/noon and the winner will be announced later in the afternoon. Unfortunately, family members of the Driving Miss Daisy Team are unable to enter.

Will Mel and Hannah take a trip to Urinetown, or will they get the privilege to p*e? Enter to see!

Do you know someone who has recently stopped being able to drive, or who has a disability and will not be able to drive? They are likely to qualify for a Total Mobility Card!
We've noticed recently how few families know that the Total Mobility Scheme exists - or if they've heard of it, then they don't know where to look for information!

We thought it prudent that we do a post around this, to help our community to find the information about this amazing programme. Cheap to apply and very easy to use, the Taranaki Reginal Council are doing a fantastic job keeping this initiative running 👏

Information, including the application form can be found here:
https://www.trc.govt.nz/buses-transport/total-mobility

Any of our drivers or admin team would be happy to answer any questions around this, just give us a call on 06 751 0209 or 027 773 3268, or email at [email protected]

Please like and share to get the word out! This is so important for our community 🌸

Daisy Mel loved her time with the Steady as you Go programme!!!

A fantastic volunteer role, you will get as much from it as you will give

We are calling all volunteers, we need more p*er leaders for our Steady As You Go© strength and balance sessions. No experience necessary all training will be provided.

Peer Leaders help welcome new comers to the sessions, coordinate setting up and pack down of the venue, collection of session fee and payment of the venue hire, passing on information from the Steady As You Go© coordinator.

Our Steady As You Go© sessions consist of seated and walking exercises to improve leg strength, balance, flexibility and body awareness.

We have 14 classes Taranaki wide - in Hawera, Manaia, Stratford, Opunake, Okato, Inglewood, New Plymouth and Bell Block.
For more information get in touch with Andrea 09 759 9196 or email [email protected]

Driving Miss Daisy New Plymouth keeps expanding!
Standing in front of our lovely caddy, is Jeremy, Sharon and Hannah.
Most of you know Sharon as she has been with us for a while, helping out between trips away and her gorgeous grandchildren, but Jeremy (Sharon's husband even!) And Hannah have both come on board recently. You will see Mr Daisy Jeremy out and about transporting our wonderful clients, and Hannah will be predominantly helping with admin work.
We're so excited to have them on board with us 🌸

Fabulous!!

We're pretty excited that Platform Interpreting NZ and Audio Described Aotearoa Ltd will be making their way to Taranaki again this weekend to present our Accessible performance of the G.J. Gardner Homes NZ season of Jersey Boys performance this Sunday.

This special performance allows an audio described and NZ Sign Language (NZSL) Interpretation to make arts accessible for all.

The show is completely as any other performance, except that there is an interpreter signing at the side of the stage for those hearing impaired and that there is an audio described recording playing in individual headsets for those vision impaired during the actual show that also includes a description of what’s happening and information about the actors between the dialogue and songs.

This performance is even more special, in that those vision or hearing impaired, can enjoy a 50% discount on their tickets for this performance. To enjoy this discount, simply ring Ticketek on 0800 842538 or pop into the TSB Showplace Box Office. For those hearing impaired the Password is "Frankie" to ensure you are seated in the correct area for the headsets, and for those vision impaired, please quote the Password "Valli" so that you too, are seated in the correct area.

The performance will be Sunday 14th July at 3pm with a special “touch tour” at 2pm of the stage for those vision impaired.

*Normal booking fees will apply

When I am older
I might not remember
I might get confused
And I might lose my temper

And there may be times
When I don’t know your name
Because it’s been trapped,
Locked away in my brain

And though it will hurt
To think I could forget you
Offer me smiles,
Hold my hand if I’ll let you

And talk of adventures
We had long ago
Show me the photos
Of people I know

Play music we’ve danced to
And songs we have sung
Read me the books I read
When I was young

‘Cause your voice and your words
Might just be the key
That opens the door -
That unlocks it for me

And maybe the music
Will spark tiny embers
Of memories dormant
And I will remember

Your name and your face
And the words to our song
The times and the places
To which I’ve belonged

And it might last moments
Or minutes or more
As the fire sheds light
Through the crack in the door

But when the door closes
And gone are the flames
When you are once more
A stranger again

Just know you’ll have stirred something
Deep down inside
Something familiar
That I recognise

Something that’s real
That’s not stored in my head
But right at the core
Of my heart space instead

Something that’s stirred
By your smiles and your stories
The touch of your hand
And the songs you sing for me

And though I’ll have no words to tell you
Just trust
That deep down inside
I’ll remember

I’m loved

Happy pink shirt day! Pink Shirt Day is about working together to stop bullying by celebrating diversity and promoting kindness and inclusiveness. Most of our NP Daisies wore pink today in some way, but as promised here are some pictures! Boss lady Mel Henshilwood looking absolutely fabulous, and our administrator Anna and her son, little honorary Daisy Archer 🩷
Did you wear pink today? Share with us!
