Last week I needed to make a return day trip from Paihia to Auckland. Before I’d gotten to Kawakawa I had already counted the vehicle in front of me cross a yellow centre line four times, and seven times over the white lines. This wasn't a young hoon either. It appeared to be an older gentleman in a modern well-kept vehicle. Returning from Auckland on Friday afternoon I was minutes behind a head on collision at Kauri just north of Whangarei. Too many people are getting killed and injured on our road due to drivers inability to stick to the middle of their own lane. Why? Drivers are going too fast, their distracted, their vehicles are unsafe or the simply can’t drive. The reality for most businesses is if you have people on the road, that is the most significant hazard in your workplace. Keep your team safe on the road with an up-to-date safe driving policy. One of the owners informed me off a couple on their wedding night, who after what is obviously quite a few, tried to light an LED candle and nearly set the room on fire, fortunately they only singed the headboard. People do stupid things......

Are you Relevant?

Relevant buildings are required to have an Approved Evacuation Scheme under the Fire and Emergency Act. For most businesses and accommodation providers this is a fairly straight forward process. Make sure you're compliant and give us a call today.

Relevant buildings include:

1. Buildings where 100 or more people can gather together.
2. Buildings where 10 or more people work.
3. Buildings where six or more people sleep, unless there are three or fewer households.
4. Buildings storing certain levels of hazardous substances.
5. Buildings used for early childhood, medical, and disabled care services, unless the building is a normal home.
