Split, Croatia - visiting the cellars of Diocletian Palace, UNESCO. Incredible architecture in the remains of the old palace built for the Roman emperor at end of the third century AD. Today it forms most of the Old Town. Recommended visit!

Visiting the seaside village of Ston, on the Peljesac Peninsular of Croatia, & the famous oyster farming region since the Romans ruled in the area. No small oysters here, & oh so tasty! A recommended visit.

It’s been a great day on our Slovenia - Croatia Farming Heritage Tour. We did a Dubrovnik walking tour of the old walled town. This area has a rich history, dating back to Roman times, due to its position halfway between Venice and Istanbul. For hundreds of years the governors kept the peace with the two empires in order to maintain an independent state. Dubrovnik was destroyed by earthquake in 1667 and rebuilt. It was attacked viciously in the Civil War in 1991-94, with a map showing clearly the damage and destruction. Again, the resilient people have rebuilt most of the city and continued on with their lives.
Lunch in a local restaurant , followed by a swim in the Adriatic Sea( just because we could); live music in the lounge and good company to finish the night.

On our Croatia to Slovenia Farming Heritage tour, we stayed in Mostar and explored the old city on the shores of Neretva River. The iconic Stari Most (Old Bridge) is named after the bridge keepers who guarded it during the 16th Century Ottoman era. Destroyed in the 1993 war, the new replica bridge is one of the world’s best examples of post war reconstruction! There is still evidence of war in the city.
