Our last day of the Chile trip! We went to El Tatio geysers at sunrise. Javier, our guide, set up a picnic breakfast overlooking the geysers. He even made scrambled eggs!

We saw many animals, birds and reptiles today, including the quintessential flamingos, the teal beak ducks, wild donkeys and Vicuñas (a smaller camelid).

We visited a small village called Machuca, where I ate the tastiest empanada stuffed with goat cheese (empanada de queso cabra). The Village also houses a cute church.

In the afternoon we visited an indigenous township called Tocanoa. Then we went to the Atacama Salt Flats. It was massive. We saw the Andean and Chilean flamingos.

We had our celebratory dinner at La Casona on our last night at San Pedro de Atacama.

A long, but an awe-inspiring day! We explored Atacama, the driest desert in the world, with our local guide Javier.

We first visited El Valle del Luna (The Moon Valley). It is hard to describe the landscape in words or capture its essence in any number of photos! The layers of minerals in various colours created by floods waters raising and receding millions of years ago are a sight to behold. And so are the interesting rock formations and sand dunes.

We then visited the salt mines and a small rock forms called the Tres Marías (Three Marys). Javier spoilt us with a nice picnic lunch, overlooking the stunning views of the desert.

In the afternoon, we enjoyed floating at the Laguna Cejar, a lagoon of high density salt water. We visited the salt flats and enjoyed the views with a picnic afternoon tea.

We rounded off the day with a nice dinner at La Casona, a local Chilean restaurant, enjoying live music!

So, the REMOTE Latin America event has finished tonight. We made some great connections, learnt a lot about various travel options and made many friends. I am sharing some memories of the beautiful Hotel Termas de Puyehue, our home for the last 4 days. We will bid farewell tomorrow in the morning, flying to Calama, on our way to San Pedro de Atacama.

We attended a series of meetings through the morning with supplier partners from all our Central and South America at the REMOTE Latin America event. In the afternoon, we went on yet another fascinating activity!

Our lovely guides Carolina and Jose took us for a walk into El Recodo forest track inside Parque Nacional Puyehue (Puyehue National Park). The track wound through the dense vegetation and towering treeline, hugging the Río Chanleufu (River with Many Arms).

After two days of clear weather, we had rain this afternoon, which brought out the magical beauty of the forest. We stopped at several highlights, including hot springs by the side of the river, a majestic Tepa tree, a unique tree species called Arrayán (cold to touch and brings good fortune if hugged!) and finally the rapids.

All the while, our passionate guides shared a wealth of interesting information. For instance, how the vegetation evolved over centuries, with taller trees preventing light to pe*****te, thereby stopping the growth of native bamboo bushes, which in turn start falling to create more soil (10 cm of soil gets created in 100 years!).

Carolina beseeched us to be the guardians of the forests since we all have the responsibility to look after them as the forests do by producing the oxygen for the entire world. We couldn't agree more!

One of the reasons why we are passionate about Latin America is because of the ancient culture of the indigenous people. Today, we had the opportunity to visit the Mapuche community at the La Isla National Park in Mapu Pailmaiquen.

Like any other indigenous communities, they respect and look after the natural elements such as water, air, earth, animals and birds. They believe the flowing water cleanses the soul and fills one with positive energy.

We were introduced to their herbal medicines in the form of a variety of teas.

We see some similarities between what we saw today and the Quechua people we interacted with in Peru last year. Examples are the stair forms in their art and depiction of the celestial elements.

On another note, the drive through this part of the country resembles New Zealand in many ways!

Our flight from Santiago de Chile to Osorno presented us with spectacular views of the Andes, snow clad and matching towards Argentina!

Alejandra from The REMOTE Latin America warmly welcomed us at the airport. We were then taken to Hotel Termas de Puyehue, where we are staying and the Immersion Puyehue trade event is happening for the next 3 days. It is a beautiful property overlooking the mountains and a lake.

We missed the cocktail function in the evening since our flight arrived late, but we were lucky to attend the opening ceremony and the dinner. The catering team was super efficient, taking care of our dietary requirements. The 4 course meal had local Chilean wines paired for each course.

We are looking forward to the meetings with the Latin American suppliers over the next 3 days, identifying more options that we could offer to our guests!

A beautiful spring day with blue skies greeted us today in Santiago! Our guide Caro took us first for a cable car to the top of San Cristóbal Hil. We Could appreciate the uniqueness of the city that it is sprawling right at the foot of the mighty Andes!

Once again, I can't emphasise enough the importance of travelling with a local guide of Caro's calibre. She introduced us to the snack called cachufli, which is a wafer scroll lightly stuffed with dulce de leche (caramelised sweetened milk), a local favourite. She also took us to a local restaurant called Tren al Sur Cafe serving a Mapucha tribal fare. I tasted a roast wheat coffee (Cafe de trigo), a delicious concoction with a nutty flavour!

We had a leisurely walk through the bohemian Bellavista and the arty Las Terrias neighbourhoods. In the afternoon, we inspected 3 gorgeous hotels - The Ritz-Carlton, Santiago, Hyatt Centric Las Condes Santiago and Olá Hotel Santiago, organised by our local supplier partner.

Too tired to walk, we had a lovely dinner at our hotel restaurant.

As a Latino destinations specialist, we try and get as much firsthand experience as possible ourselves. Uma and Nats are traveling in Chile at the moment, exploring the country while attending the REMOTE Latin America tourism event.

Our local guides are our pride and joy. Caro, the local guide at Santiago de Chile, recommended Ciro's Bar for an authentic Chilean food. Uma and Nats took it up and had a delicious dinner. The choice of la ensalada de vegetales con quinoa, empanada de queso and el puré de papas picante went down pleasantly. Nats even enjoyed a nice glass of Chilean Carménère!
