Tomorrow our group starts saying goodbye to the Far North, heading south towards Hokianga, with an overnight stop at their waterfront hotel, before a special night visit to majestic Tane Mahuta 🌳

The Enchanting Far North is definitely not disappointing our tour guests. Whangarei welcomed our small group tour today with warm sunshine at the lovely Town Basin and just the spot for lunch, before heading off to discover the fabulous Hundertwasser Art Centre, all were in agreement it is a must-do when visiting this area.

Day 3 was a day of discovery, travelling between Whangaparaoa to Paihia with our stop at the Whangarei Town Basin, the Huddertwasser Art Centre, the magical Kawiti Glow Worm Caves (another must-do) and the charming town of Kawa Kawa before heading onwards to scenic Paihia, home for our group for the next two nights.

If you are travelling over the Christmas period this is something to be aware of with your travel plans.

‼️ AIRLINES ON FUEL SHORTAGE ‼️

Board of Airline Representatives of New Zealand (BARNZ) says airlines are urgently working on solutions to a shortage of jet fuel after a shipment of A1 jet fuel was rejected at Marsden Point terminal.

Airlines will do all they can to solve problems before they cancel flights, adds BARNZ executive director Cath O’Brien.

“We’re asking people who intend to travel before Christmas to have patience while we gather the information airlines need to make decisions about flights,” she says. “Airlines will keep customers informed so there is no need to call your airline to ask if your flight is affected.”

While the rationing of fuel will affect both domestic and international flights O’Brien says airlines have a variety of solutions. These include ‘tankering’ (filling up to capacity in short-haul ports like Australia to help with onward journeys).

Some airlines have been advised that they will only receive 75% of their expected fuel. O’Brien says to conserve fuel some aircraft might take off with less exports.

“The ramifications of this issue are huge,” adds O’Brien.
