Hi there Guys and Girls
As some of you may be aware, Sea Kayak Adventures will not be opening its doors again.
Unfortunately it had been on the market for a while and didn’t sell. We waited as long as we could but it is time for Aaron, and I, to move on with our lives.
We started out in Anakiwa back in late 2011 as guides and then bought the business in winter 2013. Last summer was our 11th season owning it. When we took it on, we were 23 and 25, some would say not ready to own a business but that didn’t stop us. We grew it from a 4 person team to a 10 person team when COVID hit. To say we learnt a lot and grew as humans with the business would be an understatement.
I would like to say that we were good employers (cue previous employees to say how awesome we were 😜). Our amazing team members over the years certainly worked hard for us and without a doubt, made Sea Kayak Adventures what it was, we could not have done it without them. Thank you to each and every one of you! 🙌
Whilst there were many ups and downs owning Sea Kayak Adventures, both personally and professionally, I wouldn’t change it. We introduced so many kids and adults to sea kayaking/ the outdoor lifestyle and that was one of the main reasons for taking Sea Kayak Adventures on - to share our passion with as many people as we could.
One of my favourite things to come from owning SKA is the community and friendships we made. We moved to a community of about 150-200 people in our early twenties and were affectionately called “The teenagers” for a long time. Anakiwa/ Linkwater/ The Grove, wherever you want to place us, it will always be special. I have made lifelong friends who are like family now.
And a final Thank you to our families who helped us start out, gave us support over the years and have always been there. We appreciate you 💕
So whilst it is sad to see the business close, it has been invaluable to us and we each look forwards to what life has planned for us now.
Cheers
Nat and Aaron
