Wilderness Guides via Marlborough Tour Company are proud to announce our partnership with Arapaoa Kiwi Trust, sponsoring $5000 annually towards the ambitious project of eradicating stoats from Arapaoa Island and reintroducing kiwi in the next 5-7 years.

Trapping and monitoring will be achieved by landowners, volunteers, and contractors. Together, we'll help restore this precious ecosystem and bring back the kiwi! 🌿🙌

According to the world emoji dictionary "Emojipedia" there are only 112 animal and nature based emoji to represent our natural world.

That got us thinking, while our favourite animal to spot in The Marlborough Sounds has to be a dolphin 🐬 - we reckon icons like the Fern, Kiwi and Salmon deserve an emoji too! What emoji do you think should be a thing?

The acquisition aligns with Marlborough Tour Company's long-term vision as a market leader showcasing the Marlborough Sounds and the iconic Queen Charlotte Track.

Wilderness Guides brings to Marlborough Tour Company an impressive portfolio of products/services, highly skilled and experienced employees along with an established customer base.

Both parties are excited about the potential that lies ahead and firmly believe that this acquisition will provide numerous benefits for all involved.

We had nothing less than a ✨magic✨ Marlborough day for our Career Navigator Sea Kayak adventure recently!

A great day on the water, pushing outside our comfort zones, working together, and getting to know one another and our mentors. It was even warm enough that some of our brave students went in for a swim 🏊‍♂️

It's always fantastic to receive feedback from our guests - most of the time it's great and sometimes it's constructive criticism which we welcome just the same as you can always improve.

However, an email this week from a guest to our Reservations Manager Di just blew us away:

Today we received the news that we have retained our Gold Qualmark endorsement under the Sustainable Tourism Criteria. It's more poignant than other years as it acknowledges the business has not only survived the ravages of Covid but has in fact flourished.

Steve and I would like to acknowledge the efforts of our long-serving staff in helping make this happen - General Manager Martyn Carr, Reservations Manager Di Cooper, and Head Guide Alex Roberts. You - along with all of our amazing seasonal guiding staff and administration/accounts team - make this company what it is!

Here's what the assessor had to say:

Over the last couple of years, many businesses have hunkered down and just focused on survival. Wilderness Guides not only did the hard yards to survive but also worked on developing a Conservation Charter for the Queen Charlotte Sound as a region. The benefits for the region and the community will be far-reaching.
