Finally! After a week of suspense and vague, blurry sightings these lucky duckies on board Abel Tasman Sea Shuttle's Dominator were able to make a positive ID on the unknown creature, and we can now confirm it was indeed a MERMAID at Split Apple Rock! No one was more surprised than Skipper Mike to find this mystical creature of beauty sitting on the rock, wowing the crowd with her striking appearance and gracious charm. She has since disappeared but we managed to secure this footage! Maybe some other visitors got a few pictures as well?!

Bravo Abel Tasman Eco Tours, you are legends, and these are some great tips for visitors to the park to keep a lookout for these precious Kororā! 🐧

Legend! The Skipper of Abel Tasman Eco Tours uplifted this starving little blue from Onetahuti beach yesterday afternoon and transferred it to Marahau. It's now in rehab fighting for its life.
Several more dead and dying penguins have been found washed ashore since our last post.
If you are walking our local beaches please keep a look out, especially along the high tide line, for little blues stranded on shore. If they're on the beach during the day they're in trouble and need urgent help. The sooner they're rescued, the better their chances, it's as simple as that.
Call us at "Love Our Little Blues":
https://www.tasmanbaypenguins.org.nz/contact
or the DOC Hotline 0800 362 468. Put the numbers in your contacts.
* If you are walking a dog, please tie it up at least 20m away so as not to cause more stress to the penguin
* Be able to describe your location and what you are observing
* Take a photo
* keep any onlookers at least 20m away
* if possible stay with the penguin until help arrives
If a penguin is left on the beach there is a high risk of predation because it's too weak to defend itself.
It sure is a tough season for the fledglings, so let's give them a helping hand.
Massive thanks again to Abel Tasman Eco Tours - good work!

Ok fine, if you insist... Here is one of our lucky staff doing some 'work-related research' with Kahu Kayaks 🀭 Kayaking in the Abel Tasman National Park is an absolutely magical experience gliding through crystal clear waters and golden beaches fringed with native forest. We saw a big stingray and had a good look at the seals of Adele island, then landed at Observation beach for our walk back to Marahau. Special thanks to Twinkle Toes for being our excellent guide 😎

'Why are we here'? 'Who was first, the πŸ₯š or the πŸ”'?? 'What was Tina Turner's first #1 hit as a solo artist'??? These are all very important life questions, but there is 1 question that we seem to forget about:

Why are information centers still important and relevant in this online age?? We know the answers but we'd LOVE to hear your opinions! We'll tell you our 'here's why' tomorrow!

We don't know what to do with ourselves now that we no longer need to explain the tidal crossing between Anchorage and Torrent Bay to our visitors of the Abel Tasman National Park! To make sure we keep our info up to date we went up to Anchorage to marvel at DOC's brand new Kākāwera Bridge, spanning the Torrent River! *STAMP OF APPROVAL*
'work' days like these are the BEST 😍
