A successful wander down the road to the canal this afternoon in thick fog and a -2 degrees hoar frost! So cold that the water was freezing on the rods 😀
Our Twizel House is a new luxury holiday home located in Manuka Terrace, 10 min drive from Twizel.
A successful wander down the road to the canal this afternoon in thick fog and a -2 degrees hoar frost! So cold that the water was freezing on the rods 😀
Matariki Weekend Availability - our Twizel House is still available to book for Matariki Weekend if anyone is thinking about a last minute weekend away! We have also just switched to as our local property managers so there is plenty of availability currently through the winter months and school holidays!
Winter has arrived!
When you don’t feel like cooking Twizel has a great selection of food trucks. You can find them on MacKenzie Dr next to the golf course. Tonight we treated ourselves to the Salmon & Cream Cheese pizza from Shapau Pizza. It was delicious 😀
A recent guest at has sent us through some incredible photos of the house from their stay.
Thanks for sharing.
With ski field less than an hours drive from why not book a ski week at one of NZ’s most scenic ski fields. We have availability at over the winter months, book through the link in our bio.
Power is on and we have light! No more head torches 😀. Builders clean is complete and house is ready for us to move furniture in over the weekend 🍾🥂
We are nearing the end of the build and the final pieces of exterior cladding have been put in place! We looking forward to seeing the finished product this weekend!
Thanks to the teal at for getting everything across the line over the last couple of weeks.
With the interior almost complete the focus has moved onto getting the exterior completed and transformed from builders yard to outdoor living. Hopefully we get a gap in the freezing weather to pour some concrete.
Twizel was the place to be over this weekend with a stunning hoar frost blanketing the area. How stunning is the view from the house looking out to Ben Ohau.
Carpet down and electrical fit off in full swing! As snow started to fall outside it was nice to have carpet under foot rather than raw concrete over the weekend!
Exciting times seeing the bathroom and laundry tiles for the first time. Floor to ceiling tiles and walk in showers are key features in both bathrooms.
Painting is now 98% complete. has done a marathon effort over the last month painting, filling, sanding, painting again, to get all the interior ready for final fit off. Carpet is now scheduled to go down this week!
While painting continues on the interior, the exterior has had quite a lot of change over the last week so thought it was time to update the drone photos. Exterior cladding is almost complete and the foundation for our is ready for concrete.
Big transformation on site this week with the cladding going up on the exterior. We have gone with a 5 rib profile in Flax Pod to match the roof for a low maintenance, uniform exterior.
Kitchen install complete thanks to Ezy Kitchens and Appliances Timaru. It’s always great to see something transfer from paper to reality and meet expectations.
Ove the next week the exterior of the house is going to transform with the cladding going up. We have started the transition from white to black with painting of the soffits with Flaxpod to match the cladding and roof. Watch this space for an exterior cladding update later in the week.
Painting is in full swing at the moment, it’s a big job and with Kitchen install and tilers scheduled for next week and carpet only a few weeks away the pressure is on to get everything painted! Perhaps it wasn’t such a great idea to paint ourselves 😀
Gib stopping is in full swing and due to be completed this week. We are starting to close in on the exciting part of the build with painting and exterior cladding starting over the next couple of weeks.
Internal linings are all in, the house is going to look quite different by the time we head down to visit over Easter.
And just like that the house has its winter coat on and ready for internal linings!
Pre-wire and Pre-plumb all completed ready for insulation. Big couple of weeks ahead with interior and exterior linings due to go in before painting can begin over Easter.
And the painting begins! First day of painting, pulled all the hardies out of the container and laid them out to be pre painted before being cut up for the soffits. Snapped the roller handle on the first sheet and Placemakers Twizel shut at 12:30 so its been a tough afternoon.
No more climbing up the framing to get into the attic spaces. We now have stairs 🍾
The MacKenzie District is named after James Mackenzie who along with his border Collie Friday were famous sheep rustlers in the area in the 1850’s. Sadly our own border collie ‘Delta’ passed away on our drive down to site with us on Friday which made our visit to site this weekend a rather sad occasion for us. She is now watching over the house for us when we’re not there, with a pretty awesome view of Ben Ohau in the background.
Our site visit over Waitangi weekend was our first opportunity to see the house with windows in place and the interior starting to come together. These full height windows in the front of the main lounge are set to picture frame the mountains and capture the midday sun.
Windows and doors continue to go in and work has started on the two attic spaces on each side of the house. Above the kitchen is a small attic space that will be a separate ’kids’ lounge and on the other side of the house a large attic space that stretches the full length of the house.
Two weeks into 2023 and we are almost all locked up! Final wrap is all installed and windows/doors have started to go in over the last couple of days!
Just in time for the Christmas break the boys at Templeton Construction Ltd have got the COLORSTEEL roof on. The final form of the house is really starting to take shape now. We can’t wait to get down there over the Christmas break to see the progress in person.

We now have water! Pumping from 60m below ground our bore will provide a continuous supply of pure mountain water sourced from the base of the Southern Alps NZ! Huge thanks to Sam from 43South Ltd for sorting out the pump for us!
Pretty amazing being able to witness the Sockeye Salmon running in the Twizel River over the weekend. The MacKenzie District is the only place in the Southern Hemisphere where you can witness these Salmon Spawning every year min March & April. The State Highway Bridge over the Twizel River is a great spot to see this amazing sight.
