Whakatipu Wild School 🚁🧍🧍‍♀️

Heliworks had the great honor of hosting some very special guests from a few weeks ago. These brilliant young minds visited us to learn about search and rescue, firefighting, and everything related to helicopters!

They listened to inspiring stories from some of the brave and skilled individuals we are privileged to work with, showing the kids all the amazing things you can accomplish—and the lives you can save—by becoming a volunteer. The visit also featured a special show-and-tell demonstration from our talented engineering team.

We hope these kiddos had the best time and can't wait to see what incredible things these bright minds grow up to do 🫶

Meet Niko 👀

While soaring through Fiordland National Park you may be lucky enough to spot the kea, New Zealand's legendary alpine parrot. These remarkable birds are known for their striking green plumage and their playful, inquisitive nature.

Often found in the park's rugged, high-altitude areas, keas bring a sense of wonder to the already breathtaking scenery. Their presence is playful and cheeky. We take pride in operating with conservation in mind, ensuring that we are respectful of these unique birds and their habitat.

Blair is our Director and Maintenance Controller, with a vast 25 years in the industry, Blair always knew he wanted to get into the Helicopter engineering business due to the technically challenging nature of the job and an interest in the workings of aircraft themselves.

Growing up in Palmerston North, Blair is an adventurer at heart and loves all things outdoors. Blair has been with Heliworks for 6 years and takes care of our engineering team, ensuring our fleet is safe, up to standards and looks great.

In his spare time you will never catch him inside as he is going to be out in the hills on a bike, racing through the rivers in a jetboat or buried deep in a turbo engine or hot rod build.

Nick is our CEO, he has over 20 years experience and 8,300+ flying hours in helicopters. Nick specialises in heli-skiing, search and rescue flying, aerial fire fighting and commercial long-lining.

Nick grew up in Te Anau and has spent the majority of his flying career in the mountains of Southern New Zealand and Alaska.

Nick’s loves sharing his intimate knowledge of flying and the mountains of Fiordland and the Southern Lakes region with visitors to the region.

The raptor is our mighty choice for all things adventure.

Starting from its exterior it holds a very recognisable design showcasing bones, dinosaurs and vibrant colours – it is one the kids definitely LOVE!

You’ll easily spot the raptor in the Queenstown skies doing scenic flights, weddings and lots of our commercial work. It is a truly awesome helicopter – especially on bespoke charters, whether it be biking in the summer or skiing in the winter.

What a successful day with Arrowtown Choppers 🚁🌱🌲

We are so grateful to be a part of such an awesome day in the community. Heliworks Queenstown assisted with transporting native trees to be successfully planted by the community and Arrowtown Choppers.

With over 150 volunteers showing up to the party, 3000 native Beech and totara were transported and are in the ground.

This is the 7th triumphant Beech Party and we can't wait for the next one 🌱🌲🚁
