First horse for the day. This lovely girl was in the 3d half mesh wedged pads for quite a while. Due to how the combination of how the pads and putty work, her heels have improved so much that she no longer needs the use of wedges. So today she had some new flat pads with putty. I opted for the full coverage pads to also improve sole depth along with all the other benefits from this system.
Of course finished off with some Kevin Bacons hoof oil to keep her hooves nourished.

Another epic week of lots of awesome horses and clients. One thing that keeps me going and I always appreciate 😉 is coffee. The same person that made the pictured coffee handed me an iced coffee today as it’s been super hot, as we all know. Cheers! Love the mug too!

Using some Easy Shoe Speed glue on shoes for this thoroughbred that has very weak walls and crushed heels. The caudel support and loading to the frog should help bring the heels back into good condition, thus improving overall hoof pastern axis (HPA) and integrity of the hoof wall.

Merry Christmas to all my wonderful clients. Thank you all for a fantastic year. Here’s to many more 🥂
This handsome dude of a foal was among the last of the horses to be done before Christmas. He wasn’t overly keen on showing off for a photo but was very happy and good to have his feet done

This lovely dressage mare is on a 5 week shoeing cycle. Since the application of 3d mesh pads and DIM approximately a year ago, with a break from shoes during winter. She has been significantly more comfortable in her work and much happier to perform for her rider.
Before and after photos.
This is the second application of these pads and will likely need new ones either next shoeing or the following.

Summer is heating up quick. So very happy to be in the stable for this dude of a dressage horse.
His feet came up lovely with some Kevin Bacons Hoof Oil, in my opinion the best hoof oil out there. It’s a really valuable product to apply once or twice a week to keep hooves healthy.
I’ve been using their products for 15 years with great results. Get in touch if you are wanting any of their products, I can bring them to your next appointment.

Another good day! Last job was this lovely showjumper who’s rider had noticed him starting to refuse on the hard ground so we upgraded him to some ultra comfortable kicks. These will also help restore his heels to better health whilst also providing correct bone column alignment.
Kerckhaert triumph aluminium shoes with 3d mesh pads, 3 degree wedge, with extra soft impression material.

Some more information on the corrective shoeing picture I posted to my story.
Vet Kylie from Cambridge Equine Hospital took some x-rays of this horses feet after being trimmed. I was already using the same application as shown based on older x-rays but we wanted to confirm we were still on the right track with some fresh x-rays.
As shown in the x-rays we can see a dis-alignment in the phalangeal column. In this case “broken back”. The red line in the first picture displays the angle of the proximal phalanx (P1 or long pastern), the yellow line the middle phalanx (P2 or short pastern) and the green line the distal phalanx (P3 or pedal bone).
In the other 2 x-ray photos we can see that both pedal bones are heel low by looking at the red reference lines I have put on.
The solution is the application of a large supportive shoe, in this case a century support. Under that shoe is a 3 degree wedged 3d mesh pad. Under the pad is a 2 part putty called DIM, supplied by P3 equestrian.
This DIM provides a firm cushion between the frog and the pad ensuring the frog is being loaded correctly thus supporting the caudal (rear) of the hoof. This means the internal hoof structures can work as designed and support the bone column above.
The wedged pad helps to realign the phalangeal column which in turn means that the flexor tendons will not be overloaded whilst also preventing the extensor tendons from being essentially slack.

Nice shiny new pair of fronts for this lovely horse, complete with Kevin Bacons hoof dressing to promote healthy hoof and some protection in this wet weather. Plenty of heel support to allow for growth of a 6 week shoeing cycle while also providing support to the flexor tendons.
